Bravo! It might be easier if you shorten the pull by half, just a suggestion.

Very nice Mark. Everything about that tractor is in good shape. Is that a 3J or Twenty-Two or something over the back in front of the LandRover?

Cheers,

That's the original 1 owner 5J I posted about in this thread, I think we had a discussion about the Landrover at that time!: www.acmoc.org/bb/discussion-d72/27943-ba...ne-owner-5j-d2-in-nz

Can anyone verify if this is the original style of edge filter for the starting engine fuel bowl off this tractor? I was watching one of Toby's episodes on the starting engine rebuild and from his description I reckon it might be. Found it amongst the 'stuff' in the toolbox.

As you might have picked up I've got this old girl in the shop for some much needed maintenance:

One of the issues I've had is a constant seep of coolant from both the main engine block drain pet cock and also the air bleed one on the top of the starting engine. I tried lapping them with fine grinding paste and had no success. I research the part numbers and find I can order these from CAT:

However, even though it would work, and probably much better than the original, I don't feel that happy with the look:

Are the old original brass taper seat style still available, and where is the best place to source them?

you can still get stuff like that online i cant remember the website though i think they also sold oil cups and i was looking for oil cups when i spotted em.

but first i would try flowing some silver solder over the tap core and lap em again. it just might work check with some engineers blue aka bearing blue or mark up dye to check the contact patch where the dye isnt disturbed or doesnt transfer is the low spot. clean and flux em with bakers soldering fluid or ezi-weld 801 liquid flux(801 is so strong you can solder monel and stainless stuff normal flux wont touch)

those new ones are probably brass and just chrome plated a few hits with a file to take the chrome off they wont look so ugly or spin em in the lathe and machine them slightly round carefull not to go to deep or youll cut the ball seat.
