That's a much clearer shot Richard. I figured that blob in Google was the Best and the Bing map confirms it. Of all the stuff on the internet, I would say maps is my most enjoyable thing. I love looking at areas that I'll never visit, and even some that I have visited!
I reckon the way to argue for an extraction permit is to allege that the two machines are "polluting" the pristine countryside and the only way to fix it is to remove them. Furthermore, the track that you put in with the D4 will be free trailmaking that the Conservation dept. won't have to pay for..
We can only try : )

You could always see if the National Guard or someone of the sorts needs a training excersize. Back in the 70s we had them come rescue a tractor that was stuck in a swamp. They flew in, slinged it and lifted it out. They were gone in under an hour. Was a neat sight to see that big twin rotor chopper working.

My friend is a pilot for LA COUNTY FIRE but they don't have anything bigger than a Huey.

This brings back memories of when I was in Viet Nam in the Seabees and needed to move an oversize structure we used for loading liquid asphalt. We would give a bottle of scotch to an freindly Army Master Sgt. and the next day at the appointed time, a big two bladed chopper would magically appear with rigging hanging down right over the load we wanted moved! It would then re-appear suspended from the chopper right where we wanted to use it next!

Oh, and then there was the time we traded a load of hot mix to the guys with lots of potholes in their PX parking lot for a pallet of Falstaff......... I digress!

Get a hold of Erickson Air Crane, out of Portland Oregon,

They have those awesome CH-54 / Ch-64 Skycranes. That would be a light lift for them. I believe they have a lifting capacity of something close to 12 Tons.

Very Cool!
So when will the resuce mission begin for the 25?

Eric See the slanted hole in the flywheel where the starter lever goes. Had my father-inlaw tell me that during this time of the year when he parked the crawler he would take his belt off and place it around the flywheel to keep water from being ice the next morning. Can,t imagine going to one of those old 25s on a morning that it was cold enough to be ice and think the thing would crank. Folks sure like to work hard back in those days.
Bad weather delayed our out west trip and I was out there the week of you show. Watched the weather forcast, and worried about all your effort.

Hint.

The rescue/recovery involved a Vietnam Era bird and a driver of the same era?

Stay tuned.
