So, this is a great example of things that I and others on the current board would like to change.
A lot of the names on the letter that started all of this were past Directors and Presidents, I wasn't around the Club then but I can see how Phildirt's opinions would have been formed, after all look at what they just did, they wanted to control the Club, so they reckoned they'd just take it regardless of what anyone else thought. Takes some gall to put it nicely.
There are no "secret minutes", there are however public minutes and private minutes. The private minutes only include things that cannot for one reason or the other be made public at that time, for example details of a contract that is being negotiated, and other things that are not appropriate for public consumption. It is common practice and there is nothing suspicious about it, most of topics come out in a future set of minutes when final decisions are made and agreed on.
My view is that the BoD can and should do a better job of communication. While I have seen no effort to hide anything, greater transparency will be a benefit to all of us.
I also think the the Club and all its members need to modernize. If you know a member that's not online, help them get online! I know we can be a cranky, stubborn crew and proud of it, but fercryinoutloud, let's get with it!

A - Antique
C - Caterpillar
M - Machinery
O - Owners
C - Club
Antiques are those that are no longer wanted or serving a daily working life --- YEP - Many of US.
Caterpillar speaks to the HOLT-BEST and post merger equipment
Machinery - "Caterpillar" made many more machines than tracklaying tractors
Owners -- Those persons that owned or do own the above branded equipment
Club --- This is where the rub comes - everyone has an opinion and they do not often mesh --
Your take on the "M" is interesting. As an editor I always found it annoyingly redundant. (I still do, but that's just me.)
well they had to have the M or it would be acoc and can you imagine the issues with that.and yes cat made a large range of equipment not just crawlers.

as we dont have general meetings (bit hard when we are all over the world and different time zones) as such then yes the membership has little say. ACTUALLY THAT IS CORPORATIONS LAW the board or management committee runs the group or company and they issue DIRECTIVES for the secretary (CEO) to see carried out. the members ELECT the management committee to do this on their BEHALF.
ANY FULL MEMBER can contact the secretary or a director to have a issue added to the agenda to be discussed at the next board(committee) meeting.
and if we the members dont like what the committee is doing we can raise a no confidence motion at the AGM or when positions are up for election put our hand up to be elected.
if your not happy dont sit on the fence and whinge, get off thy arse and take part.
now remember any member in good standing can nominate to be a board member.
this letter should have only been sent to the board and the secretary asking for a response from the board. as it was not done at the AGM.
it should not sent to the wider membership.
end rant.
i have had experience in clubs before where the members tried to run the show override the committee and it didnt work well. as president of our then club dad did board of governance training years back run by our state office of fair trading and it helped iron out a few wrinkles the club had at the time.

Firstly can I congratulate those current BoD members that have come out and given some factual explanations, and opinions. These people need support from all of us. Without them raising their hands to fill these positions, frankly the system would stall.
We undertake a vast amount of promotional work down under for the cause and the name, so unwanted Spam and activities such as these strategies does not assist in any way.
From down here, we are all watching these events unfold and on a personal note, I am appalled at those who tried to bulldoze the legal process out into the long-grass.
A lot has been commented on. I agree with sheddcanyon regarding determination of persons named actually authorizing their names to be used and suspect not everyone named even knew that this action was going to be brought. I am aware of one member whose name was on the list without permission and asked to have it removed. As stated earlier, don't damn any particular person named until they've been verified as permitted.
Here in Aus, this action is illegal and comes with consequences. This may be the pathway to enact once this matter is resolved, however I feel the shaming of those who have disregard to the constitution, and process may send them away with the “rattler” as well.
On another matter I personally agree with trainzkid88 Re the renewal date should be set to the same time each year say the 30th of June, making it easier to remember. The accounting would certainly be easier for the treasurer and secretary, this is the way we do it in our Chapter.
As for the insurance mentioned. We here in Aus have to source our own insurance on top of the ACMOC membership and the Chapter membership. Given the exchange rate, we are outlaying a considerable amount each year on membership. Though we’re not complaining I just though I’d share that with everyone.
We have had some discussions recently regarding the models and merchandise. Due to the difference in the Dollar, it may be an option to have some products produced down under rendering them more affordable and available to other regions at far reduced costs. We have a demand for models at events which doesn’t seem to dwindle. (Just a thought).
I feel the three time slots for the meetings is a move to assist the international members, however as stated earlier please keep up the communication regarding these matters. It is quite easy to get embroiled in one’s efforts moving forward on these roles however we all need to work round schedules, so regular updates are essential.
A Deas has said many times, enough from me at this point.

Davyn,
Thank you for posting, the more voice heard the better. I want to also thank you for bringing up that your chapter and others in AUS source their own insurance and administration for the necessary formalities of operating a chapter. I do believe that one misconception is that all chapters are the same, when in fact the "contract" chapters take on all the administrative and insurance burdens.

Hi, Davyn.
Good to hear from you, especially with some good ideas and some background on what international members are faced with and have to deal with to be members.
Quote:
"Here in Aus, this action is illegal and comes with consequences."
Unquote.
I suspect that it is illegal in every one of the fifty states here too. And it SHOULD have consequences. The 'hot seat' might be a bit extreme as. at least to the best of my current knowledge, no lives have been lost as a result of this 'insurrection' attempt. But I still think it should have consequences. How-wevver, I'll leave that up to BoD - that's why they (DON'T) get the big dollars.
I noticed the demand for models while I was back home but that was 3 years ago now - good to hear that it hasn't dropped off. I have thought for some years that there were some poor choices made regarding which models to produce. Some of the models chosen were units that didn't get much 'airplay' Downunda and, I suspect, in other parts of the world as well. I suspect that things like terracers didn't get much traction outside of North America simply 'coz local manufacturers filled the market with cheaper local products. And D2s were like navels, butts and opinions - EVERBODY had one.
Personally, I think that the bigger machines, D6s and up, were more iconic and would have sold better. Or some of the graders and scrapers. Me? I'd have loved to see a D9G, maybe even a DD9G but CCM beat 'em into that one. I do have a D9GR model at the moment, D9G with semi-U blade, 4-barrel multi-shank rippers and the retracable ripper shanks on the ends of the blade - the reason for the 'R' in the model name - NEAT. And a Siamese twin D8 - also pretty neat.
But what would I know?????? I'm 'justa pore, dumm DowNunda bulldozer op'rator'. 'Nuff said.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I have resigned my position on the ACMOC Board of Directors.
Loma Berndsen
***That is unfortunate, as you had recently become a director. Are there any parting words to share with some of the membership? Some of us are confused as to whose "side" you were on, as you were "concerned" as well.
And what about Bill Robertson? Will there be enough bodies left to direct and manage the club? Any more folks jumping ship?
No explanations owed, but it is always nice to know, rather than leave in haste.
Thank you for your attempts to help maintain and build the club. JM

I have talked to another member who's name was included on the letter that had specifically asked not to be included as he wanted to remain neutral. That brings the total to four people that did not authorize their names to be included, so far.
