Hi all. Good or bad, I'm pretty much done with 17. I might add hydraulics later on but for now it's pretty good. The better rollers made it ride 100% better. The other ones were hitting the pin bosses.

That's interesting what you write about the ride quality viz the rollers Bruce. I didn't realize it would make such a difference.

Hi Neil, before I changed rollers, it would bounce the tounge of my field roller so bad the drawbar pin would pop out because the drawbar pin lock is gone. Now you can pull it no problem, no bounce. The old rollers were worn to the point where the pin bosses were hitting the flanges of the rollers. It was ugly to ride on.

Thanks Bruce, that's good to know. I used my 5U for "real" yesterday, pulling out overgrowth at a buddy's house, and boy was it rough riding. I know I needed new undercarriage but I didn't think it would be that rough : )

here's something to remember when doing undercarriage on anything anti-sieze is your friend makes the job easier next time and allows proper tightening to be reached without undue stress. a retired mechanic i know did his time working on old tracked farm machinery working in swampy salt water intrusion country owned by the sugar mill plantation said to me they always carried a tin of graphite grease or nickel anti-sieze some times even made their own graphol powdered graphite and heavy oil. all fasteners got this treatment or you couldn't undo them.
the physically longer tracks would ride smoother compared to d4 size machines.

And use a thread tap and clean the threads, clean threads allow bolts to turn in easy and torque correctly without galling threads.
