Hi all, yesterday I decided to take the pumps out and check the timing. All but two were ok. One of my plungers was pretty short so I lifted its yolk up to compensate. I'd never checked injection timing before but the book explained it really well. I also remembered Eddie B talking about adjusting the yolks to compensate for plunger wear.
Thanks Eddie!!
Notice the two different pumps. On the left are the pumps installed on this engine. The right hand pump is a standard 318 pump. I'm guessing they use different seals. I can't find a book that has the newer pump number, so I'll call Cat this morning and hopefully get somewhere. The o rings I need look like pretty standard ones so maybe I can just use some jobber size.

The pump on the left in photo takes a 2M-4453 seal/o-ring. Pump on the right uses a 2A3307 seal/o-ring. The larger o-rings around the pump body are a 2M-8663 seal/o-ring.

Hi all. Been slowly getting 17 put back together. Rebuilt a starting engine and got it installed. Had to do quite a bit of cleaning to the original air inlet pipe. Got the air cleaner washed out and installed. I couldn't find a good rope start dash, so I patched a cut up one I had. I'm close to starting the diesel, after I install the gauges and get some diesel in the tank. I'm headed up north this week to get some early production pieces off of what's left of 9U 114. It's surprising what all got changed early on in production.

Thanks JM. If the main runs as nice as the pony I’ll be very happy. I got a pickup load of nice, used bottom rollers to get installed after I button up the top side.

Well, it's a runner again. The main runs a lot better than when I started with it. Now I'll give it a good bath and start changing rollers.
