Hi OM, I want this tractor to be rope start, with no lights and no generator. I realize that's dumb, but that's how I want it. The next guy can option it out however he wants.

Not dumb Bruce - your tractor, your rules : ) That said, I will enjoy your rope-starting videos! I occasionally rope start mine to see what sort of health it's in and what I've found is that it takes about four pulls if the tractor has sat for a while. I think next time I go out there I'll turn the pony back and forth few times over the intake stroke to "prime" the cylinder so's to reduce the # of pulls - that's my theory anyway
Cheers,
Neil

Thanks Neil. I used to have a 9U that I plowed snow with. Usually the third pull was winner. Seems like they start better cold than hot.

I'm a big fan of the rope start. I love my 7u electric start but the starter engines solve so many problems when they're working correctly. As has been mentioned on the forum by some pretty knowledgeable members the gas starter motors aren't F1 race engines and are pretty basic. Good on you for putting it back to a gas pony

Swapped out the oil fill with a turbo oil return brazed in with a unaltered. Also swapped in a old style big fuel pressure gauge. Still need to find a big oil pressure gauge and temp gauge.

I might have that gauge, ill check my treasure pile tomorrow and let you know. I always save those old obscure gauges when I run across them just because.
