Tanks for the location of the beloved SxSD8 @ Hillsboro, have to track it down ...have friends + family in Portland so will keep that in mind....

Hi, Orrin S.
It wuz 2011. I had helped Jess Gilbertson and family put on the Best Show Harvest Spectacular at the Jack Wallace Ranch at Woodland then gone to a small show In Kansas, down to Baton Rouge for a week and back to visit with GWH. He showed me his collection and another one then gave me a guided tour of the Rocky Mountains National Park. He then said he was going to 'surprise someone'. Guess who that 'someone' was. You nearly fell off the ground when you opened the door. LOL.

I ENJOYED that.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thanks Neil,
Really enjoy the antipodal folks and their life style and the neat differences from the US life. Many many interesting slang expressions & great historical songs!!

Was lucky and made a 6 week trip ti dowNuder in 2004. Got to meet several members starting with Paul White & TomCatNZ on North Island and John Neal on the South Island. All great folks. John with his great sense of humor was on active duty with the Royal Kiwi Air Force....we visited the local base & I was arrested and stuck in the holding cell....until several incriminating fotos could be taking for on-line used could be taken.....LOL It was the week on John's tractor & machinery
club's show so it was a v. special time. Tried to meet Alan (?) in the Christ Church area, but his health wasn't good at the time. The met Swishy in Melbourne for a fun day & evening....did a 2 day visit to Tasmania to see a Tasmanian Devil in their native habitat(was on my bucket list) then to Perth and spent some quality time with Oz-Dozer & his wife(GREAT hosts) before visiting Ayres Rock/Sydney/Great Barrier Reef/Northeast Rain Forest. Wonderful trip just hope to make one more trip dowNuder in my lifetime.

God Bless

Hi Neil,
Forgot to mention a connection we have...I spent 1st 17 summer's on mom's birth place, a farm, in the Bristol Valley just 5 miles north on Rt 20A
from Toomy's gas station on Rt 20, if that old land mark rings a bell....it's 5 miles west of Canandaigua. We went through Pittsford going in to Rochester
to see the Red Wings play...my uncle in his youth played semi-pro ball. My Uncle rented some farm land from a man living in Pittsford and I used to go with him when he paid the farm rent; later a high school friend lived there any we used to swim in the Erie Canal at his friend's place....lots of many happy memories
of Ontario & Monroe counties!! Loved the Canandaigua Steam Show as well...Small World....my Uncle Ernie pastured cattle for Jeff Huff(ACMOC) of Honeoye a
CAT dealer as you may know. Has a nice tracks museum v. close to junction of Rt20A & Rt20.

God Bless one and all.

Hi Orrin,
not familiar with that gas station but everything else is. Jeff let me store my 3J at the museum for a couple of years until I got going on it. Yes, I very much enjoy living here! : )

Neil,

Toomy's was a small white station w/ dark green roof and white shingles spelled out Toomy's on both side of the roof...a land-mark for me locals and me from earliest memory! Family buried in Baptist Hill, forget the new name for that cross roads village....

Yes, lived 65 yrs in NY and the homestead we sold when moving to Denver was built by my family circa 1827 and managed to enjoy it all those years and live in the past 42 years...so nice climate to live in., especially in farm country!! I work one summer in Holcomb(now Bloomfield) @ the caning factory and later at Locke Insulator in Victory.

God Bless and enjoy a cool comfortable summer....101* promised for today...LOL

Ok now I remember the gas station - right there on the corner if one was to drive down from Victor to Bristol Mtn. Haven't been past there for a couple of years but they're still there.
The Town bought the development rights to Powers' farm so that 200 acres right in the middle of Pittsford has to remain as an agricultural concern plus a few other acres on the other side of the Village. I'm hoping to someday take the D2 down there for ag work for diesel money. Should be good for him if I can tread lighter on the soil than the fleet of Farmalls he runs

Neil

Morning Neil,
Yes, that the station I was referring to! I take it you've skied Bristol Mt.....west side of that hill was pasture my uncle owned way back in the 1930's ...there was a sanitarium farm for TB up near it as well.

Looks like the 200+ acres could use some of your D-2's help....LOL Nice to have a close to home exercise park, ya think?? Good luck with that plan.

Also remembered that in biz section of Bloomfield there used to be a large colony of albino squirrels...they lived in the horse barns behind my uncles aunts house and they were always running alone the electric lines and in the trees on main street...bet they are long gone...funny what bits of history pop up to mind!!

Last time I was back there was 2 yrs ago for a granddaughter's wedding. Will try to get in touch if have a chance to be in the area. Enjoy the Canandaigua steam show when I can get to it. Reconnected with my friend, Norm R2 22, at the show two years ago.

God Bless one and all.
