First things first...great looking load! Secondly, I say it was heroin or meth doing the driving. Thirdly, I'm glad there wasn't an accident to take up your day.

Good grief!! I'm glad it all worked out. She probably can't even spell "truck" or "car".

Have a great day tomorrow as you and your partners unveil the SS D8. What a tremendous accomplishment that will survive all of we mere mortals. I wish I could be in Redding but timing is not great for me.

Hi Glen,
Just thinking aloud again, the right hand engine is very close to the left hand one, so much so that I'm wondering if there is space in there for the pony engine and space to start it and the right hand main engine, or is this where the direct connection between the two engines comes in, i.e. start the left hand engine with it's pony and then use the left hand engine to start the right hand engine...
I'm just curious to know...

Hey John,
The build team and I are amazed on how the original operators got in there to pony start the right engine! We cheated... We installed a 24 volt electric starter on the right diesel. We installed a pony on the left. With the option of posi locking the drive train we can start ether engine by compression. Also, the with one engine running, we can compression start the other without moving the tractor by holding back the two friction levers!!! It's a way cool set up...

Hi Glen,
Thanks for the explanation, it does indeed give you a lot of options around starting. It will be interesting to see which method becomes the method of choice (my guess is using the pony as it's a much more satisfying sound and process than direct electric starting).
Best Regards John

I have a very basic question about this whole Siamese setup, I'm sure it has been asked/answered before, or maybe it's a stupid question...
Are the final drives and sprockets seeing more load than they were designed for with this kind of setup? One track per engine as opposed to 2 tracks per engine etc. If the drawbar pull of a D8 is xx,xxx lbs, is the drawbar pull of this machine xx,xxx lbs + y lbs? If so, what is y equal to?
