Hi Glen (at the risk of assuming too much familiarity to someone I have not formerly met)

The history of your family is really interesting. It shows a great ability to manage.

Congratulations to you and your family for doing such a great job.

I look forward to meeting you in person sometime.

Hi, Npalen.
There is a LOTTT less scope for vertical movement in that equalizer bar than there is in the ones that Cat puts into many of their current machines and pretty much ALL of their equalizer bars are pinned both ends these days. It doesn't seem to bother them. I think the first tractor Cat built that had an equalizer bar pinned both ends was the original D10, both 76X and 84W series.

And don't worry, I had the same thoughts when I first saw an end-pinned equalizer bar.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hey Team,

The Siamese is patiently awaiting a Mechanic to install the blade. It's located at "The Best of the West Show" grounds, Santa Margarita Ranch. It's still waiting...... Hey Steve... are you done yet?

Hey Team,

It seems Ed Akin took the Siamese Twin D8 into the Sand Box...

I took her for a cruise too...it climbs grades pretty good!

It's loaded on a 9 axle headed to Ed's place for a stay! Have fun Ed...

Hi, Glen.
Which one is it gonna be, M8.

A kew-ree-yuss mind would like to know. Maybe more'n' one.

The first 2 photos are of the Hungry Horse Dam set. The 2nd pair are of the Lawrenceburg, Ohio, set working on a coal stockpile. Note the addition of the double cab in the second photo. The rest are of the King Ranch High Clearance Funnel Dozer set. Try not to drool all over your keyboard.

Just my 0.02.

Deas,
I am fascinated with the pictures of the Twin D8s. Where did you get them? I am writing a history book with Buster Peterson's custom machines ... the Twin D8 being one of them as well as Quad D9s. As for the Twins, where did you get the knowledge about the coal Twin being in Lawrenceburg? Trying to corroborate sources. Found a guy that saw them at Rubin Coal Co as a kid. He got to ride on them. Rubin Coal offices in Cleves, OH ... he said the coal mine (strip mining) was in West Virginia. You're saying Lawrenceburg, (Indianna?) Trying to sort all this out. Would appreciate your help.

Hi, Eileen.
I actually e-mailed you about these tractors back in 2016 for your 80th anniversary - and received a 'deafening silence' in response.

Here is a link to an earlier discussion about the Siamesed D8s with some posts from a relation of one of the machanics who worked on one or more of them.

Please feel free to wander back through the whole thread for more information.

Hungry Horse Dam mention:

I also have a video with a 4-second glimpse of the Hungry Horse Dam set at work.

I am currently on your side of the Pacific puddle until around June 30 and would be happy to come up to San Leandro to share what information I have on any of Buster's 'toys', some of which actually came from the Peterson History pages of your web site which once featured this material but now sadly consists of only a timeline.

I also have some photos of what was probably the last surviving Cat D8 offset sideboom - sadly now also gone - in a yard in Washington State. Again, I e-mailed Duane about this machine several years ago with a view to the possibility of it being 'rescued' for the 80th anniversary - and received no answer.

Regardless of past non-responses, I am still happy to share what information and photos I have in the interests of seeing history preserved for future generations.

My e-mail is in my profile if you would like to use that.

There was a "jake leg" offset D8 Pipelayer at a Ritchie Bros. sale in Chicago about 8-10 years ago.

Hi, Rome K/G.
I don't how well Ritchie Bros keeps records of their auctions but, if they do a good job of it, their may still be a record of who bought it.

Saw this today and thought it might be the very same tractor when it was new. There's a picture of it on a coal stockpile, but none of the CCU.

Andy,
This is fantastic news! I've been trying to track the 'Ohio' Coal Twins down. I would love to talk (phone interview) with one of those operators. Would you be able to put that together? I'm writing a history book for Peterson-Cat. Buster Peterson (found Howard Peterson's bros) came up with several customized Cat machines during his career at Peterson. I'm trying to track them down. Specifically the Twin D8s (and the Quad D9s). Historically we've heard of 3 Twins but now I'm hearing about more. Therefore, antsy to nail down some facts, not just internet chatter. Your post was a gold-mine find! Thank you ... Eileen (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)
