Bruce,
Here are a few photos of Trical Fumigation Equipment. I think they are based in Hollister which is in the Salinas Valley. This company works around the Salinas Valley and Central Valley. I suspect they go down to the desert for winter planting too. I would don't know if they are not the only company using D4's but yours most likely has been modified to look similar to these. I hope somebody on this board can verify if your family's D4 is owned by Trical.

Thanks Iron appraiser, that's quite a set up! I remember dad very clearly hollering at me "don't steer so much!!!" I was maybe 7 at the time and just learning the art of field work. This outfit would be critical to run straight it looks to me.
Very neat

Those units were all set up prior to auto-steer. The operators have to be skilled in both getting the lines straight and making the correct application of the fumigant. Back when we used to fumigate before planting an orchard Trical was a regularly seen here north of Chico. The laws have changed and we do not fumigate like we used to because Sacramento politicians, for the most part, have outlawed all of the chemicals that we found useful.
I hope the board members can get you a picture of your dad's D-4 Bruce. My son (EAS on this board) pointed out the other day that we have rounded up every tractor the family had and some of the old trucks too. I understand the desire to at least know where that particular tractor is. Are you going to run your 7M this spring? I am looking for an excuse to get at least one of my old 7M's out of the barn. I think there may be a little work in a newly planted block of almonds that I can make a few passes through just to make a little dust.

Funny you should ask about the 7M, I went over to the cat shed and cranked it up today. Starting engine went on the second pull as always. I lost the right hand steering clutch last spring, and with getting the Harris going, never got to it last year. This year I'll get it fixed. Started the old turbocharged 9G too, sounded fantastic!! I'd love to get into the field but its WET here. Not complaining but it will be a while before we can roll here.

Here is a 1961 TD 15 IH pulling a weed killer. In central CA, the water table here is about 750 ft. , so weeds are what grows here. A real clue is the oil pumping unit in the background. No, I don't get any income from that either.

To bad your crystal ball was not working last fall you could of had a nice crop of wheat or barley. But always fun to do a little fire control work, when the dust and heat are not extreme.

Bruce P I will talk to Doug at Trical to see if he can get me a current picture of your Dads D4E. We talk quite often. Im not sure what yard it is at now. If it is Corona I can run out to get some pictures of it. I keep a log of all the 29X and 70X D4Es I find and there location.

First off, happy Easter! I thought some would enjoy a few pictures from this afternoon. I cranked up the Diesel Forty and moved my Harrow Cart over to the field. While I was at it, I made a few passes. D 40 pulls it in fourth like a champ.

That's a nice Easter gift For all of us. I wish the weather would let up over here. Can't/won't play with my CAT stuff in the mud.
A neighbor of mine has a D4E that was set up for orchard spraying,as it had a pto mounted on the rear. It has decal on the fuel tank showing that it came from Western States Cat; I kept thinking it was your old one, but D4e said he sold many growers near me similar units. One of these days I will get the serial number off of the tractor. JM
