i had to remove both of mine as the threads had seized solid on the adjusters
both of the locking bolts/rods had come out and the ends had corroded so i could not get them back in
i got them off in a rather unorthodox way ,but i was a good safe distance away

Graham,

Safe distance would be about right.....to have that up side my ear would probably knock me in to the next decade.

Ed,

Thanks for the diagram, that checks out with what I have.

Hi Richard,
The rollers fit with the plugs in the shafts facing outwards, so you can remove them to see if there is any oil inside, don't leave the lock plates out, the shafts will move and fret in the track frames..
You can tell the the bolt sizes by the lockwasher part numbers, the last two digits denote the washer size in sixteenths, 3B4506 = 3/8", 3B4508 = 1/2" and so on, only use genuine grade 8 bolts or you will be in trouble next time round.
I've had no contact with Curwoods for nine years so don't know what their situation is.
I will try and post a chart of bolt sizes for you.

Excellent, thanks Catsilver.

Also there's the trans. belly pan bolt holes that need cleaning out - one is snapped off, in the parts book it's listed as being S-1595, looked in the One Safe Source book to see if its cross-refs but seems not.

It seems to be about 9/16 UNC.

edit: 1/2UNC....sorted

Hi Richard, Cat use mostly 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" UNC on the D4D, they hardly ever use the odd in between sizes such as 9/16" etc.

Hardware reference chart is on the Cat website. If a P/N has only a single letter, or only 3 numbers in the P/N, add a '0' to the letter, or to the number, to make up a "one-number-one letter-four number", combination .. i.e .. S-1595 becomes 0S-1595, and T-143 become 0T-0143.

This one number-one letter, four-number combination, was the standardised P/N format when Cat went over to computerisation in the 1970's .. and this format is all that the Cat system recognises, in the old part numbering system.

The new, current part numbering system of 7 numbers .. 3 numbers and 4 numbers, split by a dash, has been in use since the late 1990's, and is the only other parts numbering system recognised by the Cat computer network.
