Any oil will do. Some will swear by mono-grade and other multi-grade but to me the most important factor is that it's clean. The pony is a gas engine so the oil doesn't need to be detergent oil but if you want to just take engine oil, you can put the same oil into the pony that you put into the main engine. For gas engine oil, 10W-30 would work fine. If you have 30 on hand, that will work too.
For the carb kit, there are a couple of places that offer kits - bfic (
www.carburetorsonly.com), macdonald (
www.mcdonaldcarb.com) if you call them with your carb number but you can also just buy them from ebay (
www.ebay.com/itm/296289938661)
If you look on the top of the carb, there will hopefully be a round aluminum plate that is stamped with the carb number. You can ask the owner to get a picture of that number and then compare it to the numbers on that ebay listing (scroll down). Make sure the owner is gentle on that round tag - too many people scrape them to get the paint off but that obscures the stamping.
Cheers,
Neil

Maybe a generator and a battery charger if you do not have access to commercial power. Neil already mentioned jumper cables. A can of starting fluid may help with initial start-up, As dependzic stated be sure all the fuel lines are cleaned of gunk and clean fuel is flowing.

When I have revived an old machine that has sat a long time, I have been most successful using kittyman's approach. The first thing to verify is that both engines are free and turning complete revolutions. Common hurdles I've encountered include stuck linkages/pivots, no spark - often remedied by cleaning points in magneto, fuel supply issues to starting engine. Items that come to mind that I've often needed when tackling these projects are cork gasket material for when the sediment bowl leaks after you clean it, spare fuel hose incase you can't get fuel from tank to starting engine, something to clean magneto points, 20 litres of diesel engine oil - you can use it in everything from the oil bath air cleaner to the injector pump. If you don't already know, it's worthwhile familiarising yourself with timing the magneto should you need to remove it for any reason. Depending on which model of D7 this is, sometimes it's difficult to perform any work on the magneto without removing it. The simplicity of these old machines is fantastic, a lot can be done with minimal basic tools.
Good luck, saving these old tractors from the melting pot can be most satisfying.

Hey all…
I finally was able to get the serial #.
9G7020W
Can you all help me track down a carb (or carb kit) and a magneto?
In talks with the owner, it sounds like the mag switch had been bypassed. Any thoughts?

That makes it a pre WW2 model. No big deal about the mag switch. It was decided it was better to shut the gas line down and kill them that way. As vibrating and general bouncing around bounced the float around letting gas get in the cylinders and leak into crankcase and dilute the oil. Keep a plastic handle screw driver handy if you think you might want to kill the pony quicker than running out of gas. Ground the stud out of mag (where the wire would attach) to the engine.

Big Ed, the magneto switch grounds the magneto to prevent a spark. What exactly does bypassed mean? If they routed the wire directly to ground, then the magneto won't fire. Where does the other end of the wire go - is it just loose? If so, you can wrap it in electrical tape to prevent it grounding out or you can test the switch and if it works correctly (open when switched "on" and closed when switched "off), then just hook it up again so it works as designed.
You can find a carb kit on ebay or one of the resellers like macdonaldcarb.com or carbsonly.com. For magneto help, you can contact standardmagneto.com or mainelymagnetos.com for parts and rebuilds. There are others as well. You can also buy magneto parts on the auction sites

Your D7 uses a Zenith model 22AXB carburetor. Search on line for kit.
Original magneto is an Eisemann Model RC2Q. Can be replaced by Wico XH2837S or XH1906 or American Bosch MJK-4/2-180 311

@neil
Thanks for the reply!
How do I post a picture on here. I can show you the best shot I have of the wiring.
