Where could I find a gasket kit or rebuild kit for the carb on the pony motor? In case we need to pull the carb to clean it out.
Any oil will do. Some will swear by mono-grade and other multi-grade but to me the most important factor is that it's clean. The pony is a gas engine so the oil doesn't need to be detergent oil but if you want to just take engine oil, you can put the same oil into the pony that you put into the main engine. For gas engine oil, 10W-30 would work fine. If you have 30 on hand, that will work too.
For the carb kit, there are a couple of places that offer kits - bfic (http://www.carburetorsonly.com), macdonald (https://www.mcdonaldcarb.com) if you call them with your carb number but you can also just buy them from ebay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/296289938661)
If you look on the top of the carb, there will hopefully be a round aluminum plate that is stamped with the carb number. You can ask the owner to get a picture of that number and then compare it to the numbers on that ebay listing (scroll down). Make sure the owner is gentle on that round tag - too many people scrape them to get the paint off but that obscures the stamping.
