Hi gang, got the B home today. Looks pretty good out of the hole it was in. We dug out two wheel barrow loads of dirt per side from the track frames. That improved the looks as well.

That is a super nice looking D6B. Everything is straight, all the panels are still there, hardly a scratch in the paint! It looks like it belongs in your country, stack and precleaner extension, nice cab, even tinted windows. That tractor is ready to work!

Thanks, I’m glad it’s home. Take a good look at the cab cause it’s coming off. I know they were great on a cold windy day seeding or chiseling, but I detest rattle trap old cabs. Since I’ll only be running it for my own entertainment, the cab comes off.

Now I need to focus on the 9U. The fuel regulator was rusted stuck and the spring crumbled into rust. I was ready to try to start it only to find the starter won’t engage. The starter sounds god awful when it turns over so I’m thinking it’s got dry bearings and a stuck inertia drive.

A question for Old Magnet, what would be the best replacement for the old inertia drive starter?

I'm with you re the cabs Bruce. Both my 9U's had cabs when I got them and I took them both off. I gave one away to a local and Roger picked up the other one. I guess it's running around in MN somewhere.

I do remember though plowing in the Spring with snow, sleet, and rain. But we had curtains which helped a lot.

Cabs on tractors? I can remember the 'debates' about cabs on tractors when they first started getting popular in DowNunda in the early 1960s. "Only wimps want/need cabs on tractors." "Would you drive your car down the road without a cab?" "Which makes you more money and which do you spend more time in/on?"

Most farmers went with the cabs - sooner or later. The earlier rear-mount tractors often only had a windshield, 2 sides and a roof, with - maybe - a curtain across the back. I can still remember draping grain sacks along both sides of the timber canopy of a D4 2T that I spent a lot of time on during cultivating and seeding in my last year on a farm - before I left farming and took to construction and earth moving - - - - where it took another THIRTY-plus years for cabs to become the norm on bulldozers.

I agree, good cabs are absolutely fantastic. I’ve been out working in the fields with my 8770 JD, cell phone rings and I answer it. Fellow on the other end razzes me about sitting in the house, he couldn’t believe my tractor was that quiet.

The cab on my D6C is built in to the ROPS so you don’t get the rattle, but it’s a noisy bugger inside. The gear noise is pretty fantastic.

The cabs mounted to the fenders, yuck....

The girls are excited though, I told them I’d put it in the windbreak and they can use it as a fort.

Bruce, that looks like an " Eckhart" cab. I know several different cabs were built around the NW that style but it has all the trademarks. Only thing I don't recognize is the little bird bill above the front window. Should have a little silver sticker that says " Eckhart Fabricating, Harrington Wa. He built a lot of these and wanted to get them certified for ROPS but something about dropping them from a height upside down and he didn't think he could afford it.

Girls are happy with their new fort. I reckon I’ll cut a piece of plywood to fill in where the diesel tank was.

I’ve got about an acre to plow up hopefully I’ll get it done this weekend between birthday parties. The B sounds great considering it sat for so long
