Hello all, so I've known about these for a long time. I was finally able to get a deal made on them.

First is a 9U, serial number 17. This Cat was purchased new by a Cloverland ridge native and Washington State senator Howard Roup. Howard used the Cat on his farm until the oil pressure gauge quit, he then replaced it with a parts store gauge with numbers, well it only had around 25 psi of oil pressure on that gauge, so Howard got scared and sold it to a neighbor. Of course the neighbor had wasn't scared at all because he knew that was about normal.

That neighbor used it several years then sold it to the third owner, (who I got it from). Third owner did what many others did to 9U's. Oil clutch, direct electric starting, live hydraulics, and a turbocharger were added. Also a D6B seat tank. Unfortunately it has sat out for some time, but the engine still rolls over so I'm hoping it will still run.

The gear shift moves but the forward/reverse lever is stuck. Any ideas on how to unstick it?

Engine also is still number 17.

Farm cat number 2 is a 44A D6B, I will be the second owner, nothing really special about this tractor other than it's in pretty good shape, and it has never been turbocharged. Usually around here they did this at the dealership before they got delivered. But this one didn't get one. The exhaust manifold has got the holes for one however.

I'm looking forward to getting these home.

Neat tractor too, especially with that history. As I would expect in Eastern Washington State, you're becoming the turbocharger king!

I assume the screen around the intake rubber hoses is for mouse control? I know down here they love to sharpen their teeth on anything plastic or rubber. On my Red Dog Kenworth, I just keep a new set of those 1/8" nylon air lines for the shift splitter in the house. Any time I want to drive it, I just carry them out there, unhook the stubs of the last set and install the new ones. If it has sat for more than about a week, you can count on the fact that they'll be chewed off. It isn't good enough for those mice to just chew them in one place, either. There won't be one piece of those lines longer than an inch laying around.

It is really neat to have serial number 17. I'm always a sucker for the field modifications, turbocharger, bigger fuel tank, dry air filter. Especially when they're as nicely done as that one.

I was going to ask you about the second one, but I see you posted your second post while I was typing.

That's a great little tractor. I just love those headlight brackets on the D6B/D6C/D6D and that series tractor. They always look like they've got their eyebrows furrowed and are really working.

Garlic Mom's D6C is missing the headlight brackets and I've been looking for a long time for a set, without success so far.

Great find, I'm getting more jealous than I already was.

Thanks Pete, honesty I didn't even notice the screen around the hose, but you are probably correct about it being for mice. Mice are jerks, plain and simple. The yellow jackets were thick so I didn't poke around much. I'll be better prepared next time. I'm sure the B will run with little effort, so I'll probably use it to load the 9U. There is tons of junk in front of these two so it will be awhile till I can get them. I'll keep you all posted.

Nice finds/saves. You got me on the 9U #. I found #31 nearby, a barebones Ag machine with factory wooden canopy. Owner said I can't buy it until I haul off the other ones I bought from him first. Lol. And to think, I told people I had too many CATs. JM

Neat catches. Congratulations on saving a couple more from melting away. And they both look in pretty good shape too, at least from 11,000 miles away.

Now I have a 'kwestyun' for you. Will we see one or both plowing at Santa Margarita next year? And yer cain't plead 'distance' now since some exhibits came from Texas this year. LOL.

I don't ever recall a Turbo on a 4R or 9U here but those were the sweetest running machines. They were so much kinder to the body that D2 or D4, almost like a rocking chair. Not many used D6 of the 4R or 9U, they considered them too light for Rice and too big for the orchards.

USFWS had a D6 (hightrack with 6 way blade and rippers) that did a great job of holding the ground down, it ran about 1-2hrs a year! Yellowjackets were always the designated owners and in a cab it could be very interesting! If they were not moving around, just start it and start moving, seemed like they came out of every crevice and joint in the cab. Lucky, I never got stung moving it or working.

CTS, yes, the stable is getting rather cramped. Of course you're right, once you run n a D6 or 7, a D4 or 2 seems pretty rough riding. I think GoPro footage from my D2 would look like a scene from a crab fishing boat on the bearing sea!!!

Deas, I would need a trailer, then I would need the fortitude to drive a semi down there. I have neither at the moment. OTR truck drivers have my UTMOST respect. Feel free to swing by for a visit though, I'll get some steaks out.

Juiceman, that wood canopy would be cool. I wonder how many tractors they could build in a day? 10? 5? It would be interesting to know if #17 was built within the first week, then would #31 built the second week??

Nice tractors you have acquired, I have D6 9u18518 located in Eastern Oregon waiting for me to collect and fetch home to Oz. It is a turbo tractor with cab and Dakota straight blade, unfortunately a stuck motor although a very straight farm tractor. The turbo tractors are an interesting difference to what is the norm, hopefully it will be something different back here in Oz.

I gathered D6 9U tractors were the work horses of Eastern Oregon and Washington farms for a long time, and many were turbo charged for a bit more grunt, maybe the difference between 2nd and 4th gear ploughing.
