hey guys, from what i've been told about the turboed d5-b and the long track wide guage versions came out of the custom shop at cat! try to find info on parts for a wide gauge long track in any 26x book and there is none. we have 1 long track wide guage and 3 regular d5-b 26x s all turboed! and i have seen a few advertised in central california that were non turbo versions.i think that the non turbo was standard and anything else came out of the Cat custom shop! thanks guy's!

Was kind of wondering about that myself. I don't have any late model parts and service manuals for the very late SA's (very pricey) but I can imagine finding those parts plus VHP components could be a real challenge considering those were 80's machines and fairly low production counts.

That would make sense. I've seen reference to the Cat custom shop in some of the literature I have. I wonder what all they did there. I wish I had something on the Ag 6 tractors they were the ultimate SA in my opinion.

O.M. you forgot to say the D6D tractor is a better bit of iron and better value, I would struggle to rate the D5-D5B as a good work horse tractor, as for landing up with a Custom Shop mount I know its going to end in tears, in the U.K. the D5's tend to be France Built units, with metric threads in places you would not expect, I work on a few on the D/D tractors anything past 3rd gear is money in my bank.

Hi tc,
I didn't forget. I went with your previous recommendation for the D6 over the D5. Agree it is much preferred if your going to push the hp and loads.

Here is the last brochure in the folder Dad had put together. I suspect this is the newest one I have. I enjoyed the bit about the rubber track cleats... I've never seen any, I can't imagine they would last to long in the rocky ground (here).

I'll get the rest on the next post

Replied by Bruce P on topic My very own SA
Here is an older photo of my trusty D6C SA. It is a stud. I'm pulling this sub-soiler 16" deep in 4th gear. That's pretty deep for this country. Not all fields can be sub-soiled, unless you enjoy picking boulders and fixing torn up sub-soilers. In the other pictures, I'm pulling a chisel plow, no problem in sixth. This tractor now has a blade on it.
