He's been too busy hauling stuff in and out of Santa Margarita with side trips to 7UPullers to play. I think he's planning to go get that pretty soon.

OiH, not sure if the deal will pan out or not but if it does he has me on the hook to meet the driver in Vegas and transfer the load to my truck.

I hhhhhaaaaaavvvvvveeeeee to have one!
I just love those. The one in the picture must be a heavy duty version. It appears to have two rows of four wheels. The one I saw has one row of four wheels. On the one I saw, all the wheels had cable actuated brakes, worked from the handwheel on the neck by the brakeman that we all have ride our trailers, of course. With all those cable actuated trailer brakes, I'm sure they had no problem stopping on the downhill.
I don't think I'd have wanted to be a trailer brakeman. The poor brakeman didn't even have a little doghouse to get out of the sun and weather, just had to ride along back there in the open. He probably got to be the guy who reefed on the big winch handwheel when loading and unloading, too. Bet he had Popeye biceps.

I didn't pay attention when you first posted it, mrsmackpaul, but notice the visible deflection in the trailer frame from the Marion in that earlier photo you posted. They sure tested the rivet quality on that trailer with that load.

A fellow from the BB asked me to move this for him. Any idea what it might weight?
That machine is a B-10. The same model was made in the UK by Ruston Bucyrus and given the number RB-10. I am volunteering at a museum here in the UK...
www.prickwillow-engine-museum.co.uk/
where we are restoring an RB-10 although ours is rigged as a dragline rather than a drag shovel like the one in the picture. The weight is arount 10 tons or 22400 (uk) pounds. Our machine was used for digging and cleaning drainage ditches and latterly for pulling weeds out of the drain near the pumping station.
We have an interesting collection of large early diesel engines. One of these, yet to be restored is a 150bhp Worthington 5 cylinder engine which was made in the USA. This was one of only two Worthingtons used for drainage in the UK and both came to the UK via the Netherlands complete with Worthington Pumps. The engines are model BB5.
It's a bit of a longshot, but does anyone know anything about this make and type of engine and pump ?
I will try and get some pictures posted.

Hi John,
I wonder if that Worthington was built in Ohio because there's a Worthington plant that makes compressed gas cylinders in Columbus?
Cheers,

I got the load home yesterday. John is correct the crane weighted about 10 tons.
It was a hot one driving across the desert. My thermometer shows 120F going through Baker, Ca. Rest of the trip read about 110. When it's that hot I can't put the hammer down without the truck heating up. I had to take it easy on the grades to keep it under 210. At least the A/C worked!
