D7 3T main engine won't turn over after almost tipping on side

Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted.

I bought a "new" D7 3T with a cable blade recently that started and ran great. A couple days ago, my son was clearing brush and trees on a hillside. He pushed over a large tree, and the root ball came up under him and tipped him about 45 degrees onto the left track. He climbed out and left the D7 running at low idle. We went to get the backhoe to help stabilize it while driving out of the predicament, but the backhoe battery was dead. By the time we returned to the D7, it had been about 45 minutes, and the engine had stopped running.

After a couple days of cutting, digging and pulling, we uprighted the d7. The pony fired right up, but the main does not turn. The pony stalls when the clutch is engaged. The fan does not turn, and I don't think the main is turning at all. I tried to slowly engage the clutch to turn the main, and the pony begins to die within a few seconds.

The D7 is level, but it is still on the back of the property in the woods. Gonna be quit an adventure to get it back to the house.

Any ideas on how to proceed with diagnosing the problem with main engine or moving it back to the house is appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Take the timing cover and pointer off the top of the flywheel housing and see if you can bar over the main using a pry bar on the flywheel teeth. Might be some liquid lock going on ??

My guess is shes run out of oil pressure and seized perhaps you could pull the main covers off the sump and have a looksee but I dont think its gunna be good

I was thinking it could be an oil pressure loss issue but hoping it is a liquid lock issue. Should I remove the injectors, or just try to pry the engine as it sits?

Thanks,
Bob.

Hi, Dcrobira.
Funny thing about these old jiggers - there is a li'l gadget called a decompressor on 'em which means yer don't hafta remove the 'squirts' to see if ther 'donk' is free. Ain't it juss wunndafull how inventive those designers were way back when?

I'd also venture to suggest that it might have run out of oil pressure running at that angle for 3/4 of an hour. I would not be too surprised either if there is some scoring of the cylinder bores and/or pistons.

Sad part about the whole thing is that, had anybody KNOWN what they were doing, it would VERY likely have reversed right outa there within seconds. Did you check the seat cushion for a mark that looks like a twist-off beer bottle top.

A kew-ree-yuss mind would like ter know.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Doesn't matter. At the rate you will be able to turn it with pry bar compression won't make any difference. Good chance you lost oil pressure idling at that angle. Either way you will soon find out when you try to bar it over. How full was/is the fuel tank?
