Hi Steven,
Toby has put up some excellent tutorials on fixing and operation of these things. D6 is essentially the same design as the D2-D4 shown, so these are relevant to D6 also.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

If you just type in his name it will bring up four of his videos. I couldn't get them to paste.

Hey guys just got done putting the repaired main clutch cover back togeather and for some reason the hand throttle you operate from the seat does not seem to shut the rack all the way like it did before it looks like someone in the past bent the rod that comes from the fuel injection pump back to the linkage under the seat does anyone have a good pic of what it should look like I can not find a good picture thanks guys also a pic for the main fuel line coming from the tank to the injection pump would be appreciated I know it can't be right does not look factory.
Thanks,
Robbie

its possible to put the linkage in under the floor board and have it connected wrong. it still hooks up but rack travel is limited. i've done it before. check that out first, don't think i have any pictures of how it should be. if it came apart and was working correctly before it came apart then i would assume it is put together incorrectly, at least at my house that's the assumption i make in that situation.

So finally got the steering booster put back on what a difference man my shoulders are going to be so much happier. I also had to have the left brake band rebuilt when I looked into why that brake was not working I found pads missing. It really sucked because before I got the machine it had just had brand new brakes put in before it was parked. I'm guessing when we pull started it after sitting all that time the brake was stuck to the drum and broke the pads off. Took it out had that one rebuilt $380 that hurt installed it today that leads me into today's find. I have been meaning to change the transmission oil should have done it long ago because it was so bad but I waited till now. I pulled the plug let the yellow sluge out and when done I found lots of metal and on the drain plug chunks of what looks like gear theeth to me. I know this machine probably has thosands and thosands of hours on it so who knows how long it's been like this. So should I pull the transmission or let her keep going

I can't get an appreciation of the oil in the pail, but it it is full of silver in suspension i think you would be well ahead to fix it now. Just a few filings and those teeth I might just leave it be.

Seeing those teeth corners, I wonder if the transmission pops out of gear under load. One thing to check is that the shifter is securely locked until the man clutch lever positively snaps out. I had one that had enough slack and wear that the main clutch lever would flop forward if the dozer tilted down in front and that unlocked the shifter and allowed it to pop out of gear under load. I figured it was time for a new gear or two inside the transmission, but once I fixed the slop and adjusted the latch linkage so the clutch popped out before the latch unlocked, I had no more problems with it.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
