Newest member to the family it has been parked up the road from me since I was a kid use to look at it and always wondered if it would run. so here is the story. I had a ht4 that I bought and had dropped at the bottom of my driveway. My D2 got it as far as it could but just could not get it up the last 60feet. so my neighbor up the road (the one I got this d6 from) has a really nice fully restored D6c so I ran up and asked him if he would come push this nightmare the rest of the way for me. He smiled and said he would be glad to. We pushed the ht4 were it was going to be parked to have some major work done and next thing I know we are talking about his D6 cable dozer that he will never use again and how he would like to find it a new home. I told him I was very interested love these old cats they were built to last and just so much fun to run. So a few weeks went by and we both finally had the time to see what we could do with it. I took fresh gas and oil for the pony engine figured we would start there and see if there was any sign of life. I took the plugs out and figured I would start with making sure it had spark and of course there was none. spent some time trying everything points wires no matter what I did no luck. The owner was losing faith he told me maybe its time to send the old girl to the scrap yard. I was not giving up on this cat I asked him if he would be willing to pull start it so we can see if that would be her fait. He said ill go warm up my new 6. so I jacked up the blade hooked a chain to it and then hooked her to his new d6. keep in mind I did not put any diesel in this thing it has been sitting for years and years untouched with 30 gallons of diesel in it all I did was check all fluids before we started pulling it. He started pulling me I engaged the clutch the engine made 5 revolutions then clunk clunk clunk and was running like it was just started yesterday. Everything worked steering brakes nothing was stuck it all worked the engine did not pop sputter miss just purred like a kitten. I was grinning from cheek to cheek he opened the gate and I walked her the two miles home. For years I have eyeballed that Cat never would have thought I would have owned it. I will be going through her with a fine tooth comb and will make sure to post pics all along the way Thanks for reading!!! ITs serial number is 9u8111 any idea on year?

pretty sure your looking at a 56 I have one with a hydraulic blade. Between me and my dad thousands of hours on it from logging,clearing, to leveling. Ausome machine. Im young so when I see a cable blade I laugh and wonder why

Ya its a cable blade but I think its a lot of fun doing it old school Iv had lots of hours on the new stuff kind of different doing it the old way. Then engine was rebuilt and steering brakes clutches were redone so she has lots of hours left on her. In my book if it will push scoop dig its better then a shovel I have a mobile dimension sawmill so it will be pulling the big logs the d2 cant and clearing roads. In 56 weren't they all wet clutches? I have a lot of old timers around here that still swear by those old cable dozers. If im not mistaken a cable blade was an option all the way up to the 60s right?

With a cable blade can you apply down pressure or does it depend on the weight of the blade to do the digging?

ya there is no down pressure once you load the blade and give the cable some slack you can get it to dig in pretty easily just have to be looking ahead if you want to cut a pad have to start cutting before were you want to actually cut so it has a chance to dig in. If you get big boulders it will bounce over them then you have to back up and corner bit them out. I like it if you have never tried one you should give it a try it will give you a workout that's for sure
