That's a great tractor! My first "real" bulldozer was a 9U very similar to yours. It was very well balanced. You always felt stable with it.

Have fun with it.

Those are the best kind, the ones you've admired for years and somehow find their way home to you.

Very nice tractor. You'll get the magneto figured out and soon have the pony running just as well.

Thanks for posting.

Pete.

Nice looking 9U. There are a few innovative ways to put hydraulic tilt on the cable blade also. Some have been posted in the past. That addition makes them every bit as useful as a hydraulic set-up in my book. Only more fun. Have fun with this one.

Very clean looking 9U and a great acquisition. I have always run hydraulic dozers until I acquired a cable dozer 18 months ago. I have about three miles of ranch road to re-grade every spring and find the cable dozer does a better job as it tends to float on top. Digging into hard dirt isn't as easy as hydraulic. I do have backup rippers I drop when I need to break through the hard surface and usually after you are a couple of feet into the ground, the digging gets easier. You may consider welding brackets on the back of your blade and adding three or four rippers.

D-4 7U-43159 with 4S dozer and Cat 40 scraper, D-7 3T-1179 with Cat 7S hydraulic dozer, D-7 17A 13,944, D-8 14A-1160 with Cat 8S cable dozer, Cat 12-99E-4433 Grader. All runners and users.

At first glance I thought I saw D"8"N on that winch also but it's actually the period correct model D6N.

thanks guys I plan on working on the pony motor today and see what happens with it gonna pull the hood and give the carb a good cleaning to. I pulled the oil dran plug for the pony this morning and no oil came out had to get a peace of brazing rod and fish out the hole still was just dripping put some gas in the crankcase seemed to really get moving then so im guessing it is dirty in the crankcase. and yes it is a D6N hyster winch on the back it seems to be in great working shape.

Stevens,

That is a great find as others here have said. And only two miles away is even better! Once you get the hang of the cable blade, you will find your dozing much more fun. It can become a challenge when you hit some hard pan or rocks to see if you can position the tractor to get the blade to bite. Put a track up on a previous furrow before you start a new push then the corner can cut in. You can also crank one of the leveling screws to lower the corner. This gives you good exercise getting off and on the tractor which you don't get with a hydraulic equipped tilt.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

So I got the pony motor running after taking the mag all apart and giving it a good cleaning and running some new wires finally got spark. once running if its set for at least half throttle will run fine without choke if at idle will run for about 10 seconds then die out and I have to hit the choke again even if its warm makes no difference I cleaned the carb was not all that bad someone made sure there was no fuel in it when they put it away so im guessing just the nature of the this beast? I know every pony motor has its kink but something just seems off pilot jet? I also am having issues with the starting pinion I idle the pony as low as I can and the pinion grinds the whole way in not sure how to adjust this so it wont grind also it will crank the diesel over just fine with the compression release on but as soon as a kick it off to try and start the diesel it will kick the pinion out. Have not played with the starting pinions that much are the easy to adjust? Thanks for any info guys my book does not give details on it at all.
