Got the gauge cluster blasted and repainted as well as the switch and light cover. New stuff is all 12v. Starter I've always used on 12v. Generator wasn't hooked up and regulator was gone. What do you guys suggest convert to 12? Want to get the guide lights as well. Went to change the fuel filters and broke two of the fiberglass rods........ yay... rad cap came in today. One step closer.

restopat,
I had the generator on my D2 rebuilt and it is still 6 volts as are the lights. The pony starter was rewound for 12 volts and it is independent of the generator and lights. No particular reason for leaving the generator 6 volts ....just had everything to do it that way.
Everything works well.
Have a good evening.....Bill

last year i rebuilt a 6v delco generator for a friend in to 12v, but with this it you will sacrifice current, if it is a 6v 19 Amp gen it will become a 12v 10 Amp approx. What you need to do is replace the field coils with 12v ones with the same rotation, the armature you do not have to change as it will on 12v, you will also have to find a 12v regulator with a max current of 11 Amps (i used one of a harley) but you can use another one but you have to have readjusted to 11 amps.
so you have to forget about the 200 watt driving lights

I have all the part numbers listed at home if interested.

You are doing a great job there, thanks for sharing the journey with lots of photo's. I'd suggest you also check the thermostat before you start painting the Highway Yellow top coat, on all my old Cats they have been either missing completely or jammed open, an extra 10 minutes work is definitely worth it at this point.
Keep up the great work.
regards
Mike

Thanks for all the info and compliments! I think I will keep it 6v then. Will make life easier. Now all I need to find is those guide lights.
Cysco....Now that's how a d2 should look! Hopefully by the end of this thread I get a result like that!
I did pull the thermostat. Next step is going to be to pressure test the radiator. The old cap I had on there was non pressure so I'm a little concerned that the rad core might not be up to snuff. I finished up the gauge pod last night. We will see what I can get done today after work.

Thanks! They do look pretty smart for being dirt cheap.
Got the dif cover back on. Used new lock washers, gasket, new corks in unused threads, and cleaned up the serial tag. Filled up the pony engine with straight 30 with a zinc additive. Installed the new fuel gauge. Blasted and painted the shift selector housing.
