Gentlemen of ACMOC...y'all never cease to amaze me with your knowledge. To update you on the non starting issue....Went into the fuel tower and YUCK the filters were clogged bad and the housing full of crap :( Got it all cleaned out and ordered new filters and housing gaskets this morning from Cat, goin to pick these up in the morning. Also ordered a Cat parts manual for reference.

ccjersey.....the number you gave me for the filters would not pull up anywhere as a valid number....so I did some calling and got the Cat filter # 2A5886 and this cross-referenced to a NAPA 3825.

I will keep y'all posted on what's goin on and try to get pics up later today.......Y'all are NOT gonna believe what they used to haul her here from Arkansas ... made my jaw drop, just wait and see for yerself :D

Have a great day and THANK YOU ALL AGAIN for all the help and information!!

Git 'er done. Mmm, mmm I bet DOT woulda been foamin' at the mouth.

I know some back roads in your neck of the woods, but there's no way he could have made it from Arkansas all on the back roads. He might have some oilfield experience...

 I was lookin down the road for a big rig to come blowin around the corner and this is what came in sight...my jaw hit the floor. My husband looked in the back of the pickup and the gooseneck was actually pinned on the rails of a normal fifth wheel for towin a travel trailer. The truck had to get a runnin start just to back up to our ramp. The seller actually knows the hauler and sent me the contact info. Trust me the hauler really earned his pay...he picked up the dozer in Arkansas and took it to his yard and removed the blade...took him 12 hours to get here and 5 blown out tires....then it took 4 hours to get her off the trailer.

We have a good flow of diesel out of the lines now and I am picking up the fuel filters and housing gaskets in the morning.....fingers crossed that the problem was too much gunk in the system. Still movin ahead one step at a time, being patient and checking everything. Hopefully the next thing I will be posting is the dozer starting.

No problem with a Ford on the point! If that were a Chevy he would have never made it out of the sellers drive. All kid'n aside that is one heck of a load for that combo, he must be good at avoiding scales. It is amazing what some people can do and not get hung out to dry, if I tried that I wouldn't make it five miles before smokey bear would have me shut down. Glad all turned out well, and look foward to seeing the old Cat at work.

Not sure why the number changed on the fuel filters, seems like someone reported the 3164 was a good number, but unavailable a while back. The ones I have been using may have been here a few years:lol:

The WIX equivalent number still shows up on Amazon. I found a box of 12 for more money each, but they did have a lot of cross reference numbers: BALDWIN F-919-A17; DONALDSON P77-9266; FRAM C-1170RO; NAPA 3164; PUROLATOR CP-1010; WIX 33164
Primary Applications: CATERPILLAR 7B-8261; NELSON W4H-8641; BALDWIN F-919-C10; CATERPILLAR 2A-5885

That 3825 filter looks like the right one. I have also seen a perforated steel cartridge filter sold for the old CAT fuel application, but it has been a long time since I had one of those around.

Thanks for the updated number.

Next one to check is the NAPA 1161/WIX 31161 engine oil filter (takes 2). Hiopefully you will get lucky on the hydraulic unit filter. Some of the older #44 units have a very expensive/available only from CAT filter that someone needs to figure out a work-around to use something common and cheap! Maybe Old Magnet has a listing for the #46 hydraulic units' filter.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D
