At one time I had an NHRS supercharged cummins I believe would be a fairly period correct engine for the truck but it somehow found its way back to the scrap yard from whence it came without my knowing. This topic reminds me of the movie "Duel" with dennis weaver, one of those trucks used a 1674 Cat engine and the others used cummins.

If it's just for tooling around, why not a d4400 with pony and all?

And if you don't mind going more modern and non-Cat, how about a 466?
