Looking to put a caterpillar engine into a 1957 F700 truck that i just acquired.
If anyone knows what model engine that might work please let me know or if you know if one is available.
Also would need a transmission that would work with said engine.

thanks

Hi Eric,
at the Dealer we used to fit either 1670, or 1673 Truck engines to most of the on-highway trucks we did in the mid 1960's.
A couple had the 1674--in-line 6 cylinder overhead cam engine with 6.75" bore and 6"stroke.
Later on a few others had the 1676-- V8 overhead cam engines with 4.5" bore and 5.5" stroke.

The 1670 is a Truck version of the D330 and the 1673 is the Truck version of the D333 of the day.

Interesting project. I look forward to following it on here if it goes ahead.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

A 3208 or 3208t would be the easiest to come by. check the wrecking yards for old Ford beverage delivery trucks . Many were combined with Allison transmissions.

I recently acquired this truck from a Craigslist ad for $1500. It has a 3208 with all the v-belt driven mounts & accessories, 5speed trans with bellhousing/clutch/flywheel/pressure plate/linkage, and a 2spd rear with all of its actuating components also. The truck had no title and I plan to use most of the drivetrain in an F350 project.

Craigslist or ebay might be worth searching for the drivetrain you desire.

1988 JCB 1400B backhoe
1966 Cat D9 cable dozer
1966 Cat 980 wheel loader
1967 Galion 140 grader
1963 Cat D7E hydraulic dozer 47A886
196? Cat 112 grader 3U3308 (engine: 3U243)

My BIL and I jointly own a twin screw tandem Ford that looks like yours. Not sure of year but it has a 1673 and a five speed. We have a old prentice log loader on it and use it offroad only on the farm hauling big round bales mostly. Ours was a county gravel truck. back in its day. There was tons of them in these parts years ago with the 5 speeds then as they got into the 3208s they had Alllisons behind them. I do not recall any Cat Diesel in the trucks from the 50s. I do remember many of the bigger loggers running 4-71 Detroits in the 50s GMCs single axle tractor and trailer log trucks. Big trucks when you are 6 years old watching them go by. Wish I had picked up a few when they were giving them away in the late 60s and early 70s when they got tired of them sitting around.

A D315 with a twin disc clutch might work for that era.

Hi Eric,
Cat released the D468 Automotive Engine in 1940. It was 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" 6cyl, 90 Hp at 1800 RPM.
I do not think there were many about.

As far as I recall the next range of Truck Engines were the 1600 Series released from in the early 1960's. I think the 1100 series V8's were about late 1960's and the 3200 series V8's were early 1970's.
I stand to be corrected on the above info but it is as close as I recall it.
Hence the 1600 Series engines were what we re-powered trucks from about the mid to late 1950 era onwards, way back in the mid 1960's.
The original petrol/gas engines in these things were about worn out and too expensive to repair and run down here.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

It seems to me I had a tilt cab ford in the early 70s that had a 1160 Cat just before the 3208. I think the first 613 had this engine
