I have a theory that Champion has realized that there old tried and true insulator coatinngs WERE more susceptible to fouling. I am thinking that with alcohol based gas being dominant over MTB additive gas that fouling of newer plugs is less of an issue but the "Do not Use!" mentality is still out there.
Me?
I try to run off-brands or really old Champions but when I flooded my John Deere 2 weeks ago. I see that has some D21's in that may only be 15 years old which in my book makes them "New" plugs!

also one question i had earlier is do you guys add the lead additive to your gasoline or just use it how it comes out of the pump?

Here in Oregon you can still get premium non-alcoholic gas at most stations. That's what I use in chainsaws, outboard engine, snowmobiles and the 4 wheeler. A bit of Stabil seems to help the storage life if I'm gonna store it more than a month or so before using it. Anything that's gonna get stored for more than a week, I run out of gas before putting it up.

Replied by edb on topic Leaded Gas/petrol
Hi Team,
these tractors were designed and built in the days before leaded gas/petrol was available. Also because of their low compression ratios they should not suffer pre-ignion etc. that later higher compression ratio engines do, the lead additive came about to stop this and allow compression ratios to be increased to improve power out put and fuel efficiency.
Back in the day valves seemed to last fairly well, despite no lead deposits to lubricate the seats etc. Maybe add a little bit of 2 stroke oil, and some Stabil as suggested by OG, would be beneficial to these old girls.
Others input appreciated.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

That's a big 10-4, roger, affirmative. Champion plugs seem to foul out fairly often in these older machines with low-compression engines. Go with Auotolite, AC or any plug with a Black Oxide base (not cadmium plated). Basically, if the plug has a shiny-bright base, stay away from it.

With the champion's that i already have should i keep the 3 W18's that are not cracked or broken, since i am getting 4 new W18's i was wondering if i should run it with 3 old and 1 new and just keep the other 3 as backups? or should i use all of the new ones? i cleaned the old ones up and it deffinantly helped now i have a verry bright blue spark

Put the 4 new ones in, then "Test" the old ones for problems after you get the tractor running good and reliably. You don't want to be troubleshooting misfire issues in the beginning. Then keep the good old ones for "spares".
