Im from washington state and i an 15yrs old...I have an old cat 22 that doesn't get any spark form the MAG and one of my friends ran the serial # on the motor... the metal plate with stamped numbers on it. and those numbers said that it was a 1965 D3 so im confused with it but it doesn't mean much to me i just want to get it running so we can do more logging with it... it hasn't ran in about 10yrs but pistons and carb are good... any info would help... thanks

Hello lil cat mec,
Welcome.
The first/early 22s had a ser# 2F1 TO 2F9999 and the later models have their ser# starting with 1J1 to 1J5155.
Your friend may have misread the first two digits? good luck with your new project I'm sure you will enjoy the rewards your tractor will give you!
Mike.

You need to clean and or replace the points that are in the Magneto. Second thing is to replace the condensor that is in there also. If necessary a "will fit" is good enough to prove you don't have other issues in that Magneto. Third thing is the sparkplug wires need to be copper or steel, NO GRAPHITE NOISE SUPPRESSION style! Which name/model is the Magneto? There are several threads on here which you can use the "Search" function in the upper right of this page to access.
Good Luck!

You might want to loosen the engine oil, tranny and final drive drain plugs a bit and see if any water comes out before going much further. Even if it was kept undercover, there could be some condensation in 'em. Better to be safe than sorry.

Interesting that he says a 16yo tore it apart parked inside, he bought it.
You say it sat at your cabin under a tree??
So whats it the real deal?
Inquiring minds would like to know?
Jeff
