Unloading on to the cart........the wind was screaming off of the river on this evening, so both operators have selected 'manual' on the leveler and then 'leaned' their machines into the cart to cut down on spillage.

The cart headed up to off load onto the trucks for transport to The Dalles.

A birdseye view of one of the 2588's at work. Don't be fooled here; they both are equipped with 30 foot draper platforms......the flighting that you see here is on the 'helper' auger that helps the draper

A nice head shot as John heads back out to the west;

And here is where he is headed.......the run off to the west.That's Mt Hood in the background in the upper left of the frame, with the Columbia River to the right of the frame. Lost in the haze in between is The Dalles; the bridge seen crossing the river carries US 197 across the Columbia just below The Dalles Dam.

One last shot.......the light was fading pretty fast.........headed back to unload onto the grain cart in the late evening gloom.......my favorite time of the day to
harvest. Many thanks to John & Will and their whole crew for putting up with
me.

Good Lord, those are steep hills. Thanks for posting 98j.

Is the feed auger an add on from another manufacturer or does Draper make that too? What drill spacing do you use when planting? Mostly 10" or 12" here in KS.

Does the auger behind the left and right draper belts not tend to bend and mix the nice parallel crop flow behind the auger?

Higher slats on the draper belts and maybe tines bolted to the slats should help to hold the crop for delivery to the feeder house belt in steep hillside conditions.

Thanks for the great pics 98j, that is some good looking wheat in the pictures. Sure would like to see some action shots of that D6C next year if you get the time.

My compliments to your soil erosion control program, whatever it is. It is obvious you farm for the future rather than just for today.:thumb:

This thread is the reason I joined this forum! Very good pictures and text. My brother and I farmed dryland wheat in Eastern Washington for many years but had to quit in 1987 due to financial reasons and a family dispute. I really do miss it at times now that I am retired and have free time. These pictures bring back many memories and 98j it looks like we had very similar farming methods and equipment. I spent many a hour in a D5 98j very similar to yours. It has probably been scrapped long ago now.
