D2 won't start.  Pressurized the fuel system and got all the air out to the injector pumps.  Problem it still won't start.  Ran pony until the engine was hot and fuel coming out the injector nuts but showing no pressure on the fuel gauge.  I suspect the gauge is bad but don't know for sure.  Shooting ether into the air cleaner only has little effect.  What can be the problem?
Checked the fuel rack and it moves freely.  Cracked the fuel line nuts at the injectors and fuel flowed at each line.  Seems like good compression.  What can the problem be?  Diesel is probably 7-8 years old but I don't think it goes bad?  Can't be that complicated but it has me baffled.

Who knows about the modern fuel, it could be bad. I would agree the old formula fuel was good for 20 to 30 years maybe a lot more.

I had a situation like yours. Opening the real injector bleeder valve on the back side did the trick. No idea why cracking the line was not enough. I spent 1/2 a day fussing around with a simple fuel filter change.

I was running my motor grader 8T D318 got out on the road a ran out of fuel 🥺 .: I got everything fueled and ready to go... I was flustered and could not get it started. Pony turning the main engine as fast as the cars flying by. Fuel on, gas low, 😱 I had forgot the compression.
I had to stop and slow myself down and start my process again.
Are you running 12 or 6 volt battery? A 12v battery will NOT hurt the 6v starter.
My 1954 8T D318 don't show fuel pressure until the main engine starts and then the gauge pegs out.
How are you bleeding the fuel filter housing? Are you bleeding the lower housing first? Bleed it until all air and bubbles stop. The valve on the top housing bleed till  you get a full stream of fuel from the tube routed under the engine. Then you can bleed the air out of the injectors and/or nozzles.
Good luck

Changed the fuel in the tank with new. Started the pony and bled the lines up to the injectors, no air. No smoke when I throw the compression on. Tried ether but the engine would only cough a little but wouldn't start. Gauge show no oil pressure, but the fuel does squirt out the lines when I crack them. How much pressure should the injectors put out? I am able to stop the injection pressure with my finger, seems like it should be more than that. Ran perfectly when I parked it about three years ago.

then pressure seems very low--there are injector bleeder valves behind the injectors toward the block

Pull the inspection plate off the side of the injection pump and check that the fuel rack is not stuck in the no fuel position or that the plungers are not stuck in the up position.

Basics ---
AIR - FUEL - IGNITION Source ( in the case of Diesel Engines - ignition is initiated by heat of compression stroke - and yes, there were some not so popular Diesels that did use spark plugs)

If you are not getting smoke and nothing from a whif of "magic juice" you have issues - is the air coming from the exhaust stack warm - you should be able to discern if there is heat being built up - even the changes in the starting engine RPM will tell you if you have compression issues.

No Smoke and No reaction from "magic juice" would have me looking very closely at compression, and that too will be needing good clean supply of air on the intake stroke.
