Going clear back to the start - how did that nut end up in the bottom of the clutch case? If that is the lower shaft, there should be a cap held on by two cap screws.
Attached is a poor scan from form FEO30521-02 showing the cap.

Thanks for all replies.
How about the main gasket seal for rear trans cover. I can't make out the parts # in the library.
or could I use an appropriate size piece of some sort of mastic.
Another hang up I seem to have is I have taken the ring gear cover to gain access.
I can find the exploded view of this assembly in parts manual.
I must be stupid!
Thanks agin derek

willwingo:
I found the nut and a tapered washer in the rear drain bung under the ring gear on the back of the shaft.
Which is strange if you look at drawing it shows tapered washer on the other side of the bearing.
I'm am thinking that the a hole didn't use the proper retaining clip which caused this whole issue assembled the whole transmission then noticed.
he didn't install it and instead put on the other side of bearing.
Does that make any sense or am i reaching?
Thanks fellas Derek

You didn't find that cover?
May have been re-assembled wrong and did not let them put the cover on. I may have an extra cover in the parts pile.
The gasket and rope type seal around the cover has been beat to death in another thread on this board. They may still be available from Cat - quite pricey. There are other alternatives.

willwingo: sorry for not investigating rope and gasket thread. I have diff cover, i took it of for access to get the shaft off and reinstall. Diff is still in place. I don't want any oil intrusion in clutch/brake case, correct?
I will get on the horn this afternoon with Cat and see were to go from here.
Thanks again Derek

Hi dflect1,
I scanned in a better copy of the 7U parts manual just search 10506 in the field, here is a screen shot of the gearbox and the seal numbers which are available from cat.

Rax thank you for the images and everyone's advice. My goal is to get this done before the 4th of July. Maybe see a few of you at margarita just a couple miles from my home. Looking forward to it.
Thanks again Derek
