Don’t get too discouraged just yet about the rough running. After verifying good oil pressure get it up to operating temp ( may take a LONG time).
I have had “bad” oil rings reseal after working a D6 for several hours pulling a large disc on hills. Ultimately, once it resealed , no more problems with oil burning or “ spooge “ as us two stroke guys call it.
Most of all, congratulations!

Please HELP, I know this is a novel, but I'm really bummed and depressed, here is the chain of events, as you all know this D6 has been sitting for 24 years, I put a new pony motor on her and got it running perfect, On the main motor I changed all oils and filters and flushed the fuel system. When I went to turn the main motor over with the pony it turned over freely with no problem, I left the compression release on of for a few minutes and noticed no pressure, I shut it down and pulled the copper oil pressure line off the rail and turned it over again, I had 3 qts of oil dump out and was happy thinking I had oil pressure. I put all back together and started it up and had no pressure, Again I shut it down immediately. with the advice of some great people here I pulled the inspection covers off the oil pan and pulled the sump screen out and cleaned it, I also pulled the plunger and check ball out and cleaned them, It all looked good. I also made sure the shaft that turns the pump is solid and working, I grabbed the shaft and slowly turned the motor over with a pipe wrench to make sure it was solid. I also cleaned the plunger at the oil filter housing. put it all together and still no pressure. All the oil pump gears are turning and solid.PLEASE HELP ME WITH ANY IDEAS.

Hi Team,
as you have established that you do have oil flow but do not know if there is pressure available----as a first test when no pressure is read on a particular gauge I suggest to try another gauge as if the non-reading is the one on the machine that after 24 years it could be rusted in its mechanisms or even the gauge snubber protection orifice could be clogged with dislodged crud from in the pressure supply tube.
Also be aware that these engines have massive bearing areas and can live on low oil pressure as is explained in the attached scan.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Eddy beat me to it, that may be a lying gauge...swap it out to another known good gauge....
-do you have oil reaching the top end, valve covers etc...you would have to have some oil volume then, maybe not a lot of pressure but something...?
always dropping GOLD, all you have to do is just pick it UP !
