When I saw that Push/Pull Ram, I almost thought I should check the Shop to see if mine is still in there!
LOL!
Its always easier when you have the right tools for the job!

Chuck or Jeff, who makes a push-pull ram like that? I'm looking on the interwebs but not finding one of those rams, with the hole in the middle? (Edit- ok, didn't look hard enough OTC for $1k or Chinese for $140..)
Cheers,

Neil' the one I borrowed is an OTC. I finished putting it back together today and ran it around the farm a little. I think it will have to come apart again because I can't get the free play out. There is about 6 to 8" of free play at the top of the lever and there is no more adjustment. When I first backed it out of the shed the adjustment was right on 3" but as I ran it around it kept getting more free play. At that point I put it back in the shed because it was cold here today(19F).
Thanks

Thanks Chuck. I can see that one would need a collar that the body of the ram pushes against the hub with, and some all-thread that the ram pulls, but for removing the hub, did you have some kind of collar that sits on the back of the ram for the body to push against?
One other question for the literati - I have an even # of sintered bronze disks (the "line" disks) and plain steel ones. But, I'm wondering if I should use one less plain steel so that the pressure plate is pressing against the sintered bronze instead of the plain steel. I'd be afraid of the plain steel and pressure plate galling up between them if they were worked a lot. Thoughts?
Cheers,
Neil

Neil, when I pushed the drum on I had a rod with fine threads that screwed into the pinion shaft and the other end had course threads for a thick washer and nut. If I pull it apart again I will take pictures.
