Got the oil cooler off. Nothing obvious stands out. It looks pretty good. I washed the inside out with brake cleaner and nothing came out, but... brake cleaner. I really couldn't think of an easy way to test if it's clogged. But I filled it up with oil and it took oil real slow. After I filled her up and stood upright the oil just trickled out. Not sure if that's a sign of a clogged cooler, but seems like it would cause some flow issues. The service manual says the oil cooler is bypassed until the engine warms up and then a valve in filter housing shuts and redirects to the oil cooler. Got me thinking I might just replace it. Hate throwing parts at a machine, but I sure don't want to run it this way.

drain it and clean off the oil and soak it in a bucket of kerosene, diesel or solvent based degreaser for a few days see what happens it will have oil and coolant galleries. might be a idea to take it to a engine reco shop and get it bathed in the hot tank to try and disolve any crud inside.

Good idea. I did order an aftermarket one. I'll check it out when I get it. I'll soak this one in solvent and see if it cleans up.

There's a couple of manuals in the Tech Library might help. More being added all the time. Search for 44A. Parts catalog not quite up to your serial number but I’m sure it’d help.
