I am not sure where they got the sprayed out paint. The mixture comes from Federal Standards which is what Cat and their paint supplier agreed is the correct color. I have old Cat gray match to the Federal Standard. From what I can see on the gray it is pretty close. You have to remember equipment manufactures are not near as picky on color match as auto manufactures are.
Good luck
Terry

This isn't about CAT Yellow paint but PPG. I've restored a 1940 Chevy 3/4 T pu and PPG paint was used on it. It is a Bright Torch Red. Got it done last June in time for the first car show to go to and that was here in town. First showing for it and it got Best Paint trophy right off the bat. I have no problem with PPG paint. catskinner

I have been using Rust Check Old Caterpillar Yellow (RC OCY). I thought it looked pretty close. I Certainly like it. but it could be closer to the "CATS New Caterpillar Yellow". Rust Check and any other New Caterpillar Yellow is certainly brighter than Rust Check Old Caterpillar Yellow. Seems in 2022-2023 Rust Check changed their line of paints :(. International Red comes in a different can, thou seems the same. The Red Oxide Primer (ROP) comes in a different can as well. Have not tried it yet, as still have quantities of the Old ROP. Seems the RC OCY maybe discontinued, as well as the RC Grey Primer (GP). I have been using RC GP as primer and then RC OCY. I switched to Tremclad Grey primer, but not quite as happy with it. Seems to go on thicker, and more glossy that RC. I am just about out of the RC OCY, on my last can, so looking for something as close to the RC OCY. Sent an email today to RC asking about the OCY and GP. Picked up a can of Krylon going to try that, thou seems like it might be darker.

really like the RustCheck New Cat Yellow, looks really close to a mustard yellow as it should
- goes on smooth, covers good, etc...nice, great for touch ups or whatever..

always dropping GOLD, all you have to do is just pick it UP !

the truth about paint colours.
they do vary a bit batch to batch. and between enamel, acrylic and 2pack.
how you thin it and how much thinner affects colour
how you apply it makes a difference (how many coats and how heavy, brush roller or spray)
so does the light your viewing it in(3m have a tool called the sun gun to simulate the effect of full sunlight to aid in colour matching and checking coverage.
even which way a item was when it was painted affects the colour items should be painted the way they are going to mount very important with vehicles and metallic and special effect paints.

I picked up RC's OCY in the new can.  Going to compare that to what came in the old can.
