Another Old Cat Yellow paint thread...

You can get a paint chip from the ACMOC store for your paint supplier to match. What is important is to know what yellow is correct for your year of manufacture. The original Highway Yellow was a lead based paint and a reasonably bright yellow. When Caterpillar went to unleaded paint it had more of a brown yellow in comparison, this in Australia is known as Old Cat yellow verse the earlier Highway yellow. The current yellow is Cat use now is different again.

Here are the part numbers of the Cat Yellow paint from the late 1970's on.

The store has a paint sample for the old Hi Way yellow paint.

I started power washing the 225 today and found some original paint buried under about 1/2" of grime.

Here is the Krylon "Old Cat Yellow" in comparison: i.imgur.com/aV6tCZH.jpg i.imgur.com/Z4hG5Cm.jpg

Here is the Yenkin-Majestic "Caterpillar Yellow" comparison: i.imgur.com/PLUyhcu.jpg i.imgur.com/2SRIHJn.jpg

My 225, somewhere along the way got a paintjob where the new yellow was sprayed over the original hiway yellow.

The Krylon Old Cat Yellow missed the mark by a few shades. The Yenkin-Majestic is a decent match for the new yellow.

So my local dealer has 4C-4185 gallons of Hiway yellow while supplies last. $89.43 per gallon + $30.00 hazmat shipping.

I don't think I want to pay that much to get the right color unless I am doing a full restoration of a machine.

Has anyone had PPG or the like use their scan tool to come up with a code for a single stage urethane paint solution by any chance?

I decided to buy the paint chip from the ACMOC store for future reference, and I'll just use the Krylon 01321 for now.

Well, UPS is not the ones who package things, they just carry the packages.

ordered thru Amazon---both cans had been dropped on there side and dented in at the cover edge---im thinking it had to be the deliver guy dropped them on my stoop as paint was leaking out but no drips on sidewalk or driveway---have claims in on both Amazon and UPS--do you like the color????
