Glen,

When you first told me about building a Double D8, I admit, I was dubious about if it would happen. Well I should never have questioned that. I realized I was wrong when Ed Akin told me he had contributed two tractors to the cause so it was a "GO". You, Dwayne and Ed are doing an outstanding job in re-creating history. We are the benefactors of your dedication. Thank you SO MUCH!

Hi, Neil.
As I understand it, that is what finished the Siamesed D8s at the Ohio power station, the second set built. Later in their life, the 'powers-that-be' at the power station chose to start using them to pull a scraper and probably climbing over berms and and driving through scraper cuts diagonally, something they were never designed to do 'cos they had no equaliser bar. Net result, they developed stress cracks - which were welded up - and welded up - - and welded up - until it eventually ceased to be viable to continue welding them up. Exit one Siamesed D8.

The Hungry horse set apparently fared a little better. They were used to pull a larg-ish cable ripper at times and what looks as if it might be a scraper at other times - see the photos:

I suspect that these photos would have been taken during the earth works period of the dam construction AFTER the completion of the clearing and raking which was what it was originally purchased for.

The second photo is definitely courtesy of Quad and maybe the first one is also.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hey Gang,

Met up with Ed Akin today. Ed brought down a flat bed full of parts which had steering clutches, transmissions, and bevel gears on board. We delivered them to Peterson Santa Rosa and met up with the assigned team. We also met up with Dino Spalleta who is re-building the engines. Inch by Inch guys, but it's going forward... Ed made it to Cat Night. It is John Machado's Birth Day today, so we ate pretty good last night. I had Rick Santa our Chef get some nice Steaks. Wow what a great time and meal. Ed's truck had a problem so Steve Kaehler my mechanic came to the rescue. It was an alternator. Ed was fixed in no time. We have a good Napa parts house that delivers to us when we call, great service. Guys seemed to be having fun at Cat Night, heck the last of us left passed 11 pm... Lol

Hey LCM,

Good to see you posting. Just had dinner last night at Cat Night with Phil, Peterson's Mechanic working on the build. He just started recently working on it again after a busy season. He has been working on the Right Transmission. Ed Akin delivered another transmission case. A flaw was found in the Left Case, it's rejected in the build. Soon Phil will pull apart the Build and replace the transmission case. One engine has been Dyno tested and delivered to the build. The other proved a problem with a head. It's being repaired.
Inch by Inch.
Glen
