Its always a Good Feeling knowing the inside is as good or better than the paint job!
By going through the whole machine, you know what you got, all the good points, all the not sure points. If it ever fails, you will know how and where to diagnose it because you have been through every part!
Keep Up the Good Work!

Thanks yah that's the truth. When I first started with this project it was intimidating and I knew nothing about this little motor. I have learned so much from lots of different people along the way and feel so much more confident. knock on wood...I have not made it run yet. Thanks for the encouragement. Can any one tell me the torque specks for the crank shaft gear bolts and the timing cover bolts also the manifold nuts thanks!!
Thanks God Bless

well its been a wile from my last post on this thread, I have been chipping away on the little motor and am about completed. Can any one tell me a good method of keeping the motor from turning over wile I torque the flywheel nut to 160 lbs ? in not sure how to make that happen. I decided to pull the diesel motor to go through the clutch and have also pulled the head to go through it as well. I figured now is the time to do the major services on it wile I already have it pulled apart.
Thanks God Bless

wait till its on the machine and engage the pinion latch and use transmission gearing and clutch to prevent it turning?
another thing you can do is use some starter rope and put it in the spark plug hole to prevent the cylinder from reaching top dead centre. when you get it torqued you back the crank up and pull the rope out.
or you can try to hold it by holding the gear that drives the starter pinion. not sure about the stresses it would put on the teeth or idler gear, they are pretty robust but not sure if it could affect it. some things you could do to hold it.... use a pry bar between two teeth and hold it against the housing, put something solid between the pinion drive gear and the idler gear to "jam" the gears.
or you could try using a long strap wrench around the flywheel exterior circumference and use it to hold it from turning.

OM had made a flat plate/bar that bolted to the flywheel and reached out to the fenders and kept it from turning

I like that idea, one end looks like a banjo and secures to the flywheel rope slots ?

piece of wood between teeth, not a steel prybar, need a little forgiveness in there else you may chip/break a tooth!

well I figured I had better put a happy ending to this thread. I finally installed the fully rebuilt pony motor back on to the tractor and to my surprise it fired right up and ran very good. here is a picture of it. I really like the look of the new paint in contrast to the old machine it tells a story. Thanks to all that contributed to this project I could not have done it without all of your help...On to the next one
Thanks God Bless
