nice tread!! interessting!!
so these channels you had to drill yourself and were not Original? strange that this was not factory made to clean it.

Marco, those channels were drilled at the factory and originally plugged with soft lead plugs driven in. The plugs usually must be drilled out to properly clean the accumulated rust and varnish. There are various ways of re-plugging them after cleaning. I used beads of soft solder since I didn't have any pure lead handy. JW decided to drill and tap them for brass screws.

thank you for the excellent write up and pictures--now saved on the computer for future assistance to others.
Great pic of the idle jet position when on its way out
In the past I have tried many times to photograph the jet etc, and could never achieve suitable focus clarity--you did well--maybe time to update my slow old Kodak Digital, but, it is very easy on batteries. On the other hand Denise's Canon is a battery hog, but takes fairly good close up pix.
At the Dealer, when I used to overhaul these carbs, I never ceased to be astounded by the amount of crud that would fill the groove behind the discharge slot/s of the jet as well as backed up in the passages before it.

I found that on my carbs, the plugs in the pot metal fuel bowl part are lead, and the ones in the cast iron throttle body are brass or bronze or something like that. I wonder if those two materials are ideally suited to those two applications?

Looking really good JW - if upon inspection you decide that you need new jets etc., there's a good range of parts available from Roberts Carb

If the part on the diagram is not listed, then they don't carry it. For example, that idle notch plug isn't available. But all the jets are, including that long brass tube that they call the idle jet, that crosses the throat inside the larger brass tube. I have a TU-4C manual that I'll scan and send over to you (pm me your email). It's for the carb as fitted to the John Deere 4-cylinder pony but it all more or less applies.

Thanks for all the positive feed back every one!! And for all the info as well. I didn't do much to day but finished up the bowl. The one thing that is nice about the screw and tap method of re plugging the passage ways is the next time it needs a good cleaning some one will just have to back out the screws clean things out and back in. A couple of screws needed to be cut shorter...for that I just used my electrical pliers. they have a spot specifically for cutting 10/32 screws. After the screw gets cut you then unscrew it from the tool and it straightens out the threads. I threw in a pix of the D2 that this motor came out of. She's in real good shape from what I can tell. It has about 3200 hrs on the meter. Thanks for watching...more to come...

Woah! I haven't seen a bowl like that, with the two sets of mounting holes (then again, I haven't been around much in 50 years...). Anyone care to mention what other applications that bowl might have been used in? I'm guessing the extra pair of holes is so the bowl adapts to a side-draught. Jesse, what's the scoop on that fairlead winch on the back of the D2? Some close-up photos might shed a bit more light on it.

Here are some pix of the winch I don't know much about it. when I bought the machine it worked, the guy I got it from used it for towing logs up in the woods. If any one has any info on it I'm all ears
