I'm sad to advise that Chapter 19 member Peter Ashley passed away last week suddenly. Born on 3rd May 1947 Peter grew up in Clayton, his first employment was working for Feignins Timber after which he drove scrapers for Charlie Adams, Colin Brown, Gearon, Jackel and Bill Wade. He also drive fuel tankers for Shell before owning and operating his own Traxcavator. More recently he worked for McCleod Tree Services and set up his own stump grinding business. Peter had a lifelong love of cars, fishing, trucks and earthmoving machines and was always a smiling face at our dinner meetings. RIP Peter 3.5.1947- 5.11.2020.
First I would like to extend a vote of thanks to our outgoing President Neil Clydsdale. Neil was instrumental in setting up Chapter 19 and over the last six years has worked with a well selected committee to consolidate and grow the Chapter. Neil has also encouraged the setting up of new Chapters in other States. I wish Neil and wife Marilyn well as they continue to confront the challenge of rebuilding their farm after the disastrous bushfires here in Australia and Neil in his role as President of ACMOC and his endeavours to navigate a forward through COVID-19 and into the future. Good luck. On the local front I look forward to the future when Chapter 19 can once again start participating in Club events as COVID-19 restrictions are slowly eased. I would like to focus attention on the next generation of members, in sharing the operating and mechanical skills of the older, more experienced members and to engender a more family orientated Club. Members suggestions welcome. Regards Steve Jackel
Thank you to all that braved technology and joined our first AGM hosted virtually by ZOOM! Actually I think everyone would agree it worked really well, but of course we all missed the opportunity for social interaction afterwards. I am pleased to advise that the Chapter 19 committee for 2020/21 is as follows;
President - Steve Jackel
Vice President - Daryl Robins
Secretary/Treasurer - Glen Slocombe
General Committee - Mrs Karen Jackel, Ben Jackel, Leigh Rees, Brendan Cornfoot, Jamie Loaring, Phil Hughes, Mark Hutchings
Steve closed the meeting sharing his vision for the Club to be more inclusive and attractive for junior members and partners and to offer opportunities for members to attend workshops to learn about repairing Cat equipment and how to operate Cat machines. The latter being an obvious deficiency of the secretary! Thank you to all the returning committee members and especially thank you to our outgoing President and Chapter founder in Neil Clydsdale, without whom many of us would not have become involved in such a great Club!
The LGSPA committee have decided last week to cancel the traditional November rally weekend for 2020 due to restrictions on mass gatherings under current Covid restrictions.
Chapter 19 has an extensive collection of over 1000 parts, operation and workshop manuals in its technical library collection. If you are an ACMOC member and need access to such information, or wish to purchase copies where we have duplicates email a request to the secretary and you never know you luck!
