An old friend of mine and I were talking about some pictures he had.It was his wife and daughter standing by a DW20.He told me it was the first doubles pulled by a rubber rig.He said they were built special for a job by Rodeo and Crockett,Ca.Has anyone seen or heard of a DW20 pulling two cable scrappers?
In the picture it looks like a cable unit in the front of the tractor.

You can see plan the 2 levers to right of seat that go to 2 spool unit in the front and you can see the standard 2 spool unit in the back. I bet you didnt make any turns or sudden grade changes when loading the front scraper or the push Cat would shove it all up in a pile

Western Construction was the contractor that had Euc TTSS-40's I believe. The double DW-20 is a new one on me. I know Granate did some DW-20 mods but I think that was side boards and such...

The DW 20 picture appears to have been used on the largest (in the country, world ?) road cut at the time to connect I80 with the the new bridge span across the Carquinez Straits in about 1958. The photo looks to have been taken about where the Cummings Skyway overpass is now between Crockett and Rodeo. Old-timers in Crockett say the cut changed their weather.

Yellow Fever,Murl believed it was 1956,or so.He told me the Company doing the job lost around 2 million on it.Hard to believe.He also said more dirt was moved than the Panama Canal,also hard to believe.He said he found a video of the DW20 and the doubles with him on it and put in the mail for me.I have the one of him on the TTSS40 working on the California Aqueduct

Well you have that right. It was a joint venture of Ferry Bros., John M. Ferry, Peter L. Ferry & Son, and L.A. “Babe” and R.S. Crow, all of Glendale.

As mentioned the tandems of the job were standard DW20 tractor and scraper assembled with the LeTourneau RU scraper attached behind. As mentioned also, to operator the second scraper, an additional power takeoff was mounted on the front of the DW20 tractor. With this assembly, 40 yards could be hauled at one time. Check Here! Babe used this type of hook-up years before on another job.
I would have hated to string that cable up.
