Just took this first pic and you can see it is not really even turning color yet in this area of the field though the south slope is.
NIF - Thanks for the good looking shots again.
I suppose southern sloping crops are quite noticeable regarding coloration/ripeness than on the steeper northern facing ones. Is there much evidence of southern sloping crops being harvested before northern stuff if one were to fly over tne Palouse in a Cessna or even just driving around.

NIF:
Nice looking Pete, good looking bed as well. Did you have her plumbed for your drill fill auger or will you keep doing that with the Chevy trucks? Noticed you have an air shift engage / disengage on the PTO, those are nice.
Some of the winter wheat here is close to harvest. A lot of the no-till spring grain is just heading out, going to be later than usual; do to cold wet spirng. John Deere is going to be running a 2012 experimental machine here and in the Ashton area this fall. Rumor has it that it is much bigger rotar than the 70 series, got to keep up with the red and silver boys.
I herd you bought another 6622 as a parts machine? Probably not a bad investment.

Old tracks- Yes it is quite common for there to be a week or more difference in ripeness on south slopes versus north slopes. If the field lays right we try to have one machine on north slope one on south slope so the grain gets blended to the right moisture. For example wheat has to be 12% moisture or lower for the warehouse north slope might be 15% and south slope 9% so it works out good. Most operations wont do much cutting just on south slopes because the big combines today eat the acres up too fast and most farmers like to do whole fields at a time. We used to do a lot of patch cutting, like this pic a few years ago we just cut the south slopes in the peas maybe about 1/3 of the total acres and then went to wheat.
Woody-
No we don't have a seed auger for it yet. Maybe in the future we will haul seed or dry fert with it but for the time being we will stick with the 2 tons for that.

Hi there NIF.
When do you expect to start gnawing away at the 2011 crop? It should be pretty soon I would think. I hope you hit a 150 bushels.

Casey- it is awful green yet, we are thinking two weeks for the lowest elevation winter wheat, then the winter peas will be ready, and then the rest of the winter wheat up here wont be until close to the 25th before we can start. My current estimates for average crops yields are 70-75bu for ww, 45bu for sw, 1600lb for winter peas, and 1500 lb for spring lentils.

Well we started harvest Friday down in the canyon and got wrapped up with that little dab of wheat last night. Checked the rest of the winter wheat and it is at least 10 days out still, the spring crops are turning. We had an extra hand helping so it was easy to get a few pics.

NIF, wondering if the Pete has air suspension. Imagine it is and if so how do you like the handling in the field?
