Hello folks, I've started reassembly my 3J4086 cylinder head and have four of the precombustion chambers with the hex inside. One of them has a mangled thread with about 50% usable. I would think that's insufficient for the torquing specification. I also have three chambers with the threaded inside. I see Carlscat made a removal tool for the threaded chamber - would that also be suitable for installation?
Could someone also please tell me what part # goes with the interior shape. From my Form 6700 which is 3J1 through 5000, it lists:
2A5745 - up through 3J2386
5B9658 - 3J2387 through 5000
and then both of those are superseded by
8B4440
Which of those are threaded interiors, which are hex? The links in this thread are dead so I can't look up the history and these part #s only show up in advanced search under Roby's thread and Carl's thread
Cheers,
Neil.

Neil,
All I can tell you right now is, whatever tool my son and I made to extract the combustion chambers, probably worked putting new ones back in...
I'll have to ask my son about it...It's been awhile...I'm sure I still have photos in a computer file...

Thanks Carl! Would you know which part # is the hex interior?

Just got curious about the photos..., so I took a look in my computer files...FOUND THEM...September of 09...
The two tools we made were to remove/install the injectors, and one to remove the pre-combustion cups...
The tool to install the pre-combustion cups is one we bought...My photo shows the package and tool...
CAT Part No. 1F-0479...And, by the looks of the package, I bought it from CAT...
I have photos of this tool, and the ones we made, and the o-rings and copper seals in their packages with the part numbers...
Send your e-mail address, and I'll send them to you...

PM'd - thanks Carl! I had my guy make the injector tool, and I bought the spline and hex tool set, but I don't have the threaded unit. But I don't know which part # is hex vs. threaded for the D3400 so I need to figure that out before I order

Yessir...That tool works for the newer precombustion chambers...However, the ones that were in my D2...were threaded...Hence, we had to make a threaded tool to remove them...The replacement chambers we got from Florin (as I recall) were the newer type that the hex tool would be used on...Our D2 3J is a 1938 model...

Threaded how? They all use threaded in injectors (big nut). Are you saying there is a thread lower down where the the hex is on later chambers?
Ok, forgot about those early ones....

I'll send you photos...of what we took out...and what we put back in..., if you like...or you can get them from Neil...I sent him 11 photos...and I have more...
send me your e-mail address...
Respy, Carl...
p.s....we used a 4' cheater pipe with ratchet and breaker bar...to get the old ones out...I believe that thread is left hand ... The photos will show you...part of the tool we made...the threaded part...was machined at a machine shop...then a socket welded to the threaded shaft...
