Okay, CAT-Fixers !
We managed to fabricate a tool to remove the injectors from our D2 3J1711...Thanks to all the help from the membership...AND, these are the pre-cups we find...Not the style for the hex tool...1F-0479...
The Tool Group 5F-9217 ...that consists of 5F8353 Wrench, 5F9072 Spacer, 1A2208 Bolt, 1F7464 Bolt, L1017 Nut, and 4B4285 Washer...that I found on e-bay, are for the Pre-combustion Cups on later engines like the one on our CAT 212 Grader 9T2508...A drawing shows these tools are Precombustion Chamber Tools for 4" and 4 1/2" Bore Engines...
Stopped by Holt Caterpillar in Austin, Texas this afternoon and asked about this last Precombustion Chamber Removing Tool...for 3 3/4" bore engine chambers...
6B7224 Precombustion Chamber Removing and Replacing Group consists of:
6B7225 Wrench
6B1575 Assembling Tool Sleeve
6B1574 Replacing Tool Nut Assembly
6B1576 Replacing Tool Stop Nut
6B1573 Removing and Replacing Tool Assembly
2F1335 Removing Tool
Most all of these tools have been discontinued... Interesting note...restored D2 3J1747...sits in front of their Office...Just a little newer than our D2 3J1711...
So, got any info, or specs, of what to use ? Or where to borrow, rent, buy, or fabricate such tools ? To remove the Precups without using a torch ?
I've read previous threads tracking down info until my readers fogged over and my brain fried...
All help will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks. Respy, CarlsCAT

Those are the correct tool numbers except it's for the early 3-3/4 in. bore not 3-1/2 in. Have no idea where you could find them...may have to make your own...basically a big sleeve puller that threads into the combustion chamber.

Thanks for the correction on the bore size...I have edited and corrected that oversight...actually, the print was small, and my cheaters must have fogged over...from searching for information...

Thanks Bruce Oz,
That's the same page I had found in other threads and had with me when I went to the CAT House this afternoon...
So, to be clear on this...are you talking about the tool on the bottom of the page ? I have the tools on the top of the page...which do not fit my pre-cups...too small...
Well, my son and I are just "shade-tree mechanics" and "barnyard blacksmiths"...we do what we can to "improvise, adapt, overcome"...
It's getting late, and I'm a bit tired and "frumpy"...

Rob, Thanks for your reply...Sounds like we may have to give you a call...Well, getting the dimensions of the inside of the precombustion chamber is the next step...Might have to check with a bolt supplier for something that will fit...
We've got to figure out what the part number is for the pre-cup...so's we can order some new ones if necessary... And to figure out how to fabricate some tools...
The Parts Man at the Austin Holt CAT-house told us that the San Antonio Holt CAT-house mechanics were the ones that restored the D2 3J1747...and to check with them for some info and help...
Anyone know what the part number of this pre-cup would be?
Thanks. Respy, CarlsCAT

Bruce Oz,
At the bottom of each tool description...It says..... "Operation 19-Page 14"
Do you have the information on this operation ?
Where can this info be found ?
Thanks. Respy, CarlsCAT

My parts book shows:
For the later D3400
8B4440 Chamber
7B6868 Seal
4B5647 Gasket
For the early D3400
5B9658 Chamber
1A2298 Seal
4B5647 Gasket
I'd be real surprised if you could find either one of these new.

I beg your pardon. The later one seems to be available. Florin shows a bunch of them.
I wonder if you can get the old one out if you can upgrade to the later one?
They both use the 7B3068 head.
