12Fs didn't have wheel weights.

That's not what the service manuals says but I guess you know more than the Cat literature.

Your assumption that the 12F is the same is wrong.
70D and others uses the 9S5800 (6F25) pump and 7F9540 Hydraulic Puller cyl.
The 12F uses the same pump but different 7F9831 puller cylinder and 7M8826 puller frame for wheels with weights.

Replied by neil on topic 70D No. 12 wheel hub removal
Do modern graders have that type of axle and hub arrangement or are they more like truck axles and hubs with a pair of cone bearings?

Cheers,
Neil

Hi Neil, more like a truck/trailer axle, generally have a fixed spacer that the bearings are machined to in some cases then pushed tight with a retainer plate that crushes it together with preload already done, similar to large dump truck systems.

Lets look at what I have come across. From my No.12 8T Servicemen's reference book. There is one on eBay  it references 8T, 70D, 71D, & 80C.

Sorry it takes me forever to do anything anymore. I see a picture on page 75, the 30 ton Push-me-Pull-me "Service Press" 6F25 is used to pull the outer sprocket. I was told to pull the wheel hub would take the same type press with at least 30 ton capabilities. 🤔 though these hubs have most likely been on for nearly 70 some years now, so I would, rent or buy no less than a 50 ton Push-me-Pull-me press and stand back. Best case scenario would be, On a very cold winter day heat the hub not the axle. Have your press already setup before heating,
Also 🙄 press back on with 15 to 20 ton.

Thanks. I actually did get the correct tooling with Cat. But thanks. I don't believe they've been on for much more than 20 ish years. Just before I bought it. But still...I'm aware. I did my other two machines a few years back.

You DO have a tandem drive, I assume? Because there is a chip trick for single axles like my Adams No.311, or like Caterpillar's earlier Auto Patrol or smaller 212 and 112 series.
🧙‍♂️
Good luck😎👍
Now I finally have the chains on the 8T, its time to go play in the snow. ❄ ❄

Yes. All of my graders are tandem drive. I'm interested in your 311. I've run motor graders of all vintages up thru M series Caterpillar. I've been running them since I was 16. But I've never run a non tandem machine of any make. Very unique machines and somewhat rare. Can you share photos of the 311?
