Old Magnet: Thank you, that helped.  I took that to my local starter guy who know starters.  But we can't read the part numbers when we zoom in.  Do you have a cleaner copy so we can look up part numbers?

Yes, realized that was a poor copy and already made another.

I found a Delco catalog online and many of these older starter are not provided with the part number for #1 Frame and Field (aka the body of the starter motor). Would the part # be 736 or is there some other way of determining its part number?

Delco 736D, shares all parts except #6 Motor Drive Housing with 736G which is superseded by 1108190 (10MT) superseded by 1109393 (solenoid engagement)

A new starter could be made of parts - the only part I couldn't find anywhere is as OM said, the Motor Drive Housing, but I expect that with a donor housing that otherwise fits the starter motor, a new housing could be fabricated
- 1 Frame and Field - not listed - probably need to get a starter from a donor vehicle e.g. Cockshutt 540, Chevy Belair / Corvette (6v)
- 2 Field coil R.H. / Upper 826282 - ebay $70
- 3 Field coil L.H. / Lower 826281 - ebay
- 4 Armature 818002 - ebay $60
- 5 Commutator End Frame 1908580 - ebay same as '54-'55 Chevy Belair, Corvette $40
- 6 Motor Drive Housing 1847676 - (not found on internet)
- 7 Motor Drive Complete 1850844 - available on yesterday's tractor for Oliver 60 (starter motors 1107905, 1107065, and 1107939) www.yesterdaystractors.com/Oliver-60_Starter-Drive_1850844.html $35
- 9 Brush 811553 - ebay $20
- 10 Brush Spring 813521 - ebay $20
- 11 Brush Holder 810226 - ebay $20
- 13 Brush Ground Lead 813554 - ebay $20
- 14 Brush Connector Lead 819362 - ebay $30

We found a 39MT starter in at our local Auto Electric store and the mount is different that our Cat 22.  The 39MT is 5" oc holes and the Cat 22 is 4 5/16" oc.  Maybe there is a different mounting bracket, but the one we tried didn't fit and the larger gear would not fit in either.

Our local starter expert can find everything to make one up thanks to the parts diagram for 736D except the "Motor drive housing", part number 1847676. Anyone have one by chance or know of one out there?

Thanks for the feedback info on the attempted 39MT fitting. Looks like the SAE #3 mounting pattern didn't arrive until later.

Scott, what does your guy have for #1 Frame and Field? The diagram does not show a part number
