Awesome! Scored an easier machine to rescue for a change! Yes, it can be scary when a dormant machine will want to roar to life so unexpectedly easy! This should want to motivate you to begin gathering more now! Way cool. Hope to see the videos of course. Congratulations. JM

Hey JM - this one is definitely not roached like that old D7 was. BTW - the D7 is still for sale; he's down to $5k now. Too bad the D7 is too far gone; it would make a nice companion for the 977.
Thanks,
Scott

We need to transport the 977 about 125 miles to my buddy's ranch near Fredericksburg, Texas. Got two quotes - one at $1,800 and one for $1,850. The lower quote is from a guy who sounds like an owner/operator and he said he could do it tomorrow so we're going with him.

It's done. Transported to my buddy's ranch near Fredericksburg, Texas.
Now that I have it in my possession, I can share a bit more information. First and foremost - it was FREE. Not kidding. I got it for free.
Here's how that happened - it was in FB Marketplace for $4k or $4,500, listed as not operable. I spoke with the owner, and he didn't know anything about it. It was on a 130 acre hemp farm that went belly up and he was the guy sent to liquidate everything. All he knew about the 977 is the guy who was operating it said something was wrong with it. The owner/liquidator thought that the operator said it might be some kind of pump issue.
Anyway, when I'm talking to the owner/liquidator on Saturday, I asked him how soon would he need it gone if I buy it. He said, "It has to be gone by Wednesday morning." I think he could hear my jaw drop over the phone so he said, "Look, you're the only one who's seriously interested in it. If you can move it out of here by Wednesday morning, you can have it for free."
I showed up with my partner in crime on Sunday morning at about 10 am and we had it running and operating by lunchtime.
Lined up the lowboy yesterday (Monday).
Picked up today (Tuesday). Moved it 125 miles. Cost me $1,800.

Excellent! I like hearing such things, especially for a good person! This one should help make up for the other one you beat yourself up on. Enjoy! JM

you bloody stole that. 1800 bucks thats not even scrap price. some blokes have all the luck. sadly im not one one of those people. ive just spent 500 bucks at the machine shop to try and get a 4hp southern cross diesel going and its still in pieces thank christ it was a freebie too.

Yes, I did steal it. But that's not the entire story. I spent 3 days working on a D7 that I ended up not buying. I've also spent a fair bit of time going to look at other pieces of equipment that I didn't end up buying. I knew I'd eventually find the right deal.
Thanks

Was that a reasonable price for moving 20 tons(ish) of D7 125mi? Just so's I have a reference point. Buddy's looking hard at a D6....
