Dang, figures, they must have stuffed it in there before the radiator went in, unless somebody put a different cooler in when the radiator was out? Just don't make sense why it shouldn't come out the front.

Cooler matches the other 2 I got exactly, so I'm pretty sure it is original. According to the book it should fit right through but either I'm messing that up or cat was wrong.

Looks like the photo in the book is from the newer style grille and mine is the earliest version with different mounting brackets.
Edit: the manual shows the early style and mine is the one shown below, not sure if that was standard on 4t style ones but the serial number shows 4t from 1945 and the engine is 3t from 1951. Maybe someone swapped the entire upper half?

Finally had enough, cut off the grill bracket on the lower left side and got the cooler out. Took a while using a diablo blade on an oscillating saw but it's what I had to work with. If I can ever find a grill for the dozer I'll get it welded back on, if not no big deal. Now to clean the radiator and put in one of the other coolers. Appreciate the help from you guys once again.

Hi, V14.
Just outa curiosity, if your tractor is a 4T series, does it have a roundish ACF emblem pressed into the seat side panels ahead of the fuel tank? It is my understanding that the 4T and 6T series were built by American car and Foundry during WW2 'coz Cat could not produce enough D7s.

Mine does not have that stamp shown in the other thread. I'm not sure how much of this dozer is original to the 4t though so those panels could have been swapped. The only markings are the data plaque showing weight etc. On the right side, left side is smooth metal no stamp. The 4t tag is on the rear near the CCU and the 3t tag is engine side.

Hi, V14.
So, atta guess, I would think that your machine has had at least an engine donated from a 3T series machine and maybe some of the panel work as well. It is possible that either your current hard nose or your oil cooler core - or both - also came from a donor machine - or three - which might help to explain why you had so much difficulty getting the oil cooler core out.

I'd assume you are correct about that, the coolers appeared the exact same size but when I put in the new one it almost fell out the bottom since I didn't put the bottom pan back on first so it was indeed slightly narrowed compared to the other but the mounts are the same, only partially installed it but enough to verify fitment.
I'll be happy when I can actually start clearing some land but it sounds like I'll need to get the idler collar swapped out first and still have CCU adjustments to complete but obviously couldnt test the blade with no oil cooler haha
