D4 finds its way home was created by seyser
I purchased this 1952 D4 in January of this year and finally found a economical ride for it from ND to southern MN. The seller came to the board with questions about the machine as he planned to sell it. I reached out and after conversation decided to make the purchase. The machine was originally bought by the sellers late father and had been on their farm since new.

That's a cute one. Nice and straight looking, not hacked on, etc. Doe's the cab help any? I see the little attachment, is that for popping out tree stumps? Great catch. JM

I believe the attachment is home made. The previous owner would dig rocks out of the fields after fall harvest.

Nice buy! Looks very straight and clean for its age. Getting that "rock" out had to be a little grunty.

Hi seyser.
Looks like a good catch. Unless I miss my guess, that cab mighta helped in winter but woulda bin pure murder to keep cool in the summer. Still, it does look like a pretty neat construction - kinda reminds me of a baby Mary Ann or Rebecca.

Digging out rocks? HMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY does everybody want a D4 to do the work of a D8?????????????????

I guess it comes down to doin' wotchyer can with what yer have. That's a neat piece of construction too.

Just my 0.02..

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

No wonder the "C" frames are always bent and cracked and fish plated.

Rome, I'd say that set up would be a hell of a lot easier on the C Frame and drivetrain than trying to hooks those rocks out with the corner of a sharply tilted blade 😀
The actual design of having the blade trunions  forward of the track frame oscillating point means there is a constant twisting motion on the C Frame while operating on uneven ground. Add to that some stumping with the corners or sidehill cutting and the C frame is bound to crack eventually.
