why fight with track pins....when you can cut the link and re-weld ? be careful and always use masterlink when possible..

always dropping GOLD, all you have to do is just pick it UP !

gwoods, kittyman1 I like your advice, being weak minded on where and how. Can you show me a sample. I don’t know where to cut and weld back together.

I think he is joking. No one in their right mind would cut and weld a track link back together unless they were desperate and only needed it to last until proper repairs were done. My father did some dodgy repairs to get out of trouble sometimes but he never welded track links together.

there is nothing special about a totally worn out, stretched chain....what do you have to lose?

you cut directly next to the center pillar, front side, top and bottom....make sure to stay away from the front bolt holes (shoe side)

yes Phil, not a proper fix or repair by any means, but it will buy a bit more time if funds are tight, or a machine that doesn't see much work etc..
- I did it because i didn't have any money at the time and the machine was new to me and I didn't know if what had was worth new chains....it gave me time to fix all the other issues, learn to operate dozer, and clear 20 acres of light bush....so for me...yes.
-sometimes you have to think outside the box, it's a much easier option than fighting with pins with no press...most people have a welder and angle grinder
-i learned this from my older Uncles who had dozers clearing land in Alberta and Sask many years ago, not a bad trick for poor Canadian prairie boys..

Kittyman, I've done the same in the field on worn out chains to get a few hundred hours extra, and at times to get a job finished before machine comes home for major undercarriage work.
Usually to remove a link. Torch the front sction of one link and back of the other, fit the shoe to align bolt holes and weld up.
