gwoods, first of all I liked all of your suggestions about splitting the track. I live in Western Ky/ Purchase area. I grew up on a small farm. I have never worked on a dozer. My dad had one which was td9 IH when I was young. I really like the torch and gouge. I need a lesson on using the library. I am going to work on dozer all day if the Lord is willing and the Creeks don’t rise.

Hello Gary
Be careful when you gouge the ends of the pin that you don't nick the links. You still need to find the master pin. Even if you managed to get one of the other pins out you would not be able to separate the chain due to the interlocking bushes.
If you haven't already purchased a service manual then I suggest you get one. You are moving into territory that requires specialist equipment especially if you need to remove the sprocket from the hub. You can undo all the bolts around the housing and retaining nut on the dead axle and remove the sprocket, hub, housing and bull gear as a unit, that would at least let you see what is wrong inside. I have never worked on the smaller Cats but I would say you would need to remove the track frame completely.

gwoods, chain pin out. I had a neighbor with whom helps me at times. We heated, beat. and gouged with torch. Time spent was at least more than 8 hours. Breaks were taken. Got to add a link to other track.

"got to add a link to other track"

Unless things have changed since I was working on these, you do not 'JUST ADD A LINK".
That requires the entire chain to be pressed apart just like turning or replacing pins and bushings.

Not something you will be doing unless you have a Track Press and tooling!

once the track is off you can unbolt the grousers and take the chains to a track shop to have that work done. its a job for the professional. or a very experienced person track work is dangerous.

why do you need to add a link? is one damaged?

While I don't understand the need to add a link either you should be able to do it without dismantling the entire track. Remove bush end link of the track's master link, assemble a new link and then reassemble the master link. You will however need a portable track pin/bush press. Not something that is seen all that often.

gwoods, d4 7u/7u11300, chain on right side has one pin half worn out. The dozer appears to have a replaced chain except for that pin. I figure that link will have to be replaced???? I do not have any special tools. I am novice on working on this machine. Your help is appreciated.

if its a worn pin and bushing they can be replaced separately to the chain links. you need to check the amount of wear on the track link working surface ie the surface that rides on the track rollers as they need a certain amount of meat left.

A track gauge would give the wear limits on the rail hight the rollers ans sprockets
